Do the shoulders/chest area of this J Crew Thompson suit fit fine? Or should I return?
Okay so I bought a 36S Thompson suit jacket and pants(pants fit fine no question) from J Crew Factory yesterday. It was half off and the salesman said the 36S jacket seemed to be fine. But now I'm not so sure. I can still return it in the store and I'll be able to this week if it doesn't fit. But if it does fit in the shoulders, I wanna take it to get tailored because I know shortening the sleeves and hemming the pants is a fix most tailors can do. Suit shopping is so stressful, but I'm better at it than I used to be.

The shoulders are definitely off. Unfortunately that's an extremely expensive fix for a tailor to make

The thing you want to look for is a clean line from the shoulders to the sleeve when your arms are by your sides. Do you see how it's dimpling in the second pic? You'll probably have to size down
I'm going to try kids sizes because I feel most adult men's sizes may not fit right for me because I'm so small
I would try a 34S but I'm not sure
That's a good idea, especially if you're already in the short length measurements

Yeah I'm between a 36 and a 34 depending on the brand and it's so hard to find 34

It's honestly easier for me because it's cheaper and also it's easier to find the right size as there's less variety
They are out of my budget for right now, so I'm going to try and buy a kids Brooks brothers or ralph lauren suit which actually isn't too bad
Luckily I have an email receipt for the J Crew suit

I'm not as familiar with kids sizing but definitely something to try on and see. Unfortunately the sales reps at J. Crew and BB often don't actually know how a suit jacket should fit. But we're here for you!
Thank you for your help! I've been looking for a suit for many months now and haven't had much success unfortunately. It's been stressful for me because I end up having to return or sell it. But hopefully I'll actually have success with bigger kids sizes
And the brooks brothers kids suits are fairly affordable. It's only around $150 for the suit jacket online
Once you find a jacket that fits well you can use those measurements for shopping on eBay. Suit jacket shoulder measurements will differ depending on the shoulder construction but that should give you a much better idea especially with the other measurements
Okay so here's what I'm going to do, I'm going to try a brooks brothers boy's 20R suit jacket from Belk and it's only $120 with the coupon. If that doesn't work, I'll return and try the 18. There aren't a lot of stores near me that sell kids suits other than Kohls(which I may stop by over the weekend)
I know I do need the suit for school but I don't go back until august 25th

Yeah I'm not gonna stress about it, I initially got very stressed once I found out the suit didn't fit quite right but I reassured myself that it would be okay and I would find one that fits eventually. If I can't find what I need locally, there is a macy's near my college that sells boys suits
Im gonna see if the ralph lauren outlet 30 mins from me has boys suits I can try on

Update! I tried on some suits today after returning the J crew and i think I may go with Hugo Boss as their 36S fits me perfectly and they make slimmer and shorter cuts, which are perfect for me as a short guy

Yeah, I'm gonna see if they do suit separates online because the pants for the 36S were a little tight. I'm someone who needs larger pants usually, i'm a 32 waist now. I would fit into the pants for the 38S

It can be frustrating but I've found that more brands will sell them as separates now so you can mix and match
I found Macy's has separates, they sell the suit jacket and pants separately! A little pricey as the suit will be over 500 dollars total but it may be worth it! But I'm gonna look at ebay too!

Hugo Boss runs smaller typically
You'll have to get the sleeves altered and maybe the jacket taken in a bit so just keep that in mind
Yeah, still getting it tailored for sure! Unless it's made to measure or bespoke I'd always get suits tailored

I didn't buy this suit because it was an outlet store and they didn't sell separates at that store. But I want to buy this exact jacket or something similar online

I got something very similar from Hugo Boss though! It's a navy suit and I was able to find a 36S jacket on ebay and the suit pants separately in a 32 waist. The ones that come with the 36 are a 30 waist usually

eBay can be so clutch once you know your sizing
It's an extra slim fit, and the one I wore earlier was slim fit. But this should make it so it's more of a tapered look on me
