Top block accessory/style ideas
Hey guys,
I wear plain white tops often, but I feel like they look incomplete. Been thinking of alternatives to make these outfits more interesting/complete. What would you do to bring interest to a plain top?

wow this the first time ive seen u make a thread thats cool
I think I go for material and cut, it’s actually a pain in the ass because it’s rare to actually find something worthwhile
we all need help sometimes haha 🙂 thats what this place is for
:hellyeah:
I.e white shirt vs. lace shirt
1 vs 2
I use necklaces a lot to make the top block a bit more interesting too
You can get away with having a plain top with a complex neckline
I think thats a really good point, yeah
although that first shirt has some cool details too
but for the sake of the point, I think thats a good take
Necklace
It helps break out the monotony of the top block
Also white basic tees are just hard to style bc they dominate the top half so much and are pretty plain
Idk id look for a tee that’s an interesting texture like bill said
after those comments I went and looked at bishop's fits and noticed he kind of does the same thing
even without jewelry, hes using a hat to achieve the same effect
Bishop’s fits have a high waist line which makes his shirt less dominant
You can try tucking in more
that too
He also rolls his sleeves
And the fit of the shirt is more of a different cut
sadly tucking isnt easy with the size of my belly
but im on my way down
His shirt also has a lower neck line
i hadnt thought of rolled tshirt sleeves
yeah, now that you say it, its almost not comprable haha
its also more of an off white
Ya I would try cropping your shirt if you don’t wanna tuck so that there’s less white shirt and more texture from pants
Imma put it bluntly you need to get another shirt that isn’t Hanes lookin ass
If you wanna pull it off
noted, i'll start moving in that direction
as a bigger dude, these shirts fit me really well and its hard to find others
but I will start the process of looking
Yea fashion is kinda difficult for people who aren’t 6’2 150 lbs
Glgl
thanks char ❤️
yeah haha 5'10" 269 🥲
its alot easier in seasons where I can wear outerwear
because I have an awesome selection of jackets
sheeesh
What’s why u get ur aura up
since you already have a bandana or kerchief, it might be worth exploring different positions for it
necklace is another good option (i bought one for this very reason)
Yea I gotta start putting on pounds (height pounds)
Band for band or aura for aura
m for m
That’ll get me to 5’11 lmao
haha
I love the idea of using what I already have
you wear bandanas some, no?
any recs on how to change up how I wear it?
*except ive been eyeing this one haha
with t-shirts i usually wear it straightforward around the neck, with the tails out in front
i do not have fit pics for proof but i have worn it rolled up as a headband
wait i forgot about this masterclass

from you
is that piece a standard sized bandana?
it looks larger
that's a 3'x3' scarf but i've done 2/3/4 with a bandana (no pic of 3 but it's train robber style)
u can always vest up
especially with those black pants
imo
Holy, imma yoink this one if it’s not crazy retail
Add to my collection of horse themed scarves
Its not outlandish. $48 i think from imogen + willie
Would love some input from my fellow mfad big guy @ClassClown
I don't see the bandana vision with your style broadly
I feel like most of this bandana usage evokes a cravat, which as its a tie predecessor invokes a tie
which is rather preppy/ivy
which i don't see in your fits
it can also be workwear coded but i also don't see that with your style either
but yes, your fits are 50-50 and i think the easiest solution is graphic tees ngl
My 2 cents is when you use a bandana like this it needs to have a tuck lower half, some form of chino/slacks, and some dressy shoes. The bandana has some level of formalness associated with it when used like this imo.
Or westernwear or workwear with some tweaks
Yeah re the actual q, that pic you posted of me is my only plain (off) white tee
All my other ones have some good graphic
Just some jewelery, doesn't even have to be sitting over the tee, sometimes subtlety and having someone look at your neck line is more powerful imo
I think you pull these off well. I'm particular to #2 for the extra detail on the accessories/pants.
Plain White T to me is just a particular way to evoke a classic Americana vibe with jeans. I don't really wear it with anything else, and I want the jeans to stand out with details, vintage fade, raw hem, etc. I don't tuck and make sure the crop is right at my hips, just enough to cover my belly in normal motion (it won't if I raise my hands up). Loses the belt detail which is a bummer, but until I get some high rise jeans or trim down a bit more, that'll have to do.
I'll wear a diff color tee, off white, or graphic if I want to do anything else. I like using a black tee for negative space, then matching the top/bottom outer layers. Hard to do in the summer. Graphic tee + baggies is my go-to errand running fwiw.
White OCBDs are actually really easy-going to me. I'm usually interested in ivy/rugged ivy more than you, I think, so it probably blends in more. Would agree with what's said about using different textures if you want to go outside of that.
One thing really popular in the NYC youths right now is white button down + athletic shorts. Dunno how I feel about it, but it's in the language.
I love what you do with vests and bags. I think a vintage style field watch would go really nicely in your wardrobe. Obviously I use sunglasses a lot -- I think that's the kind of thing to make the white button down have the right kind of clashing. Look at old band photos of The Clash and Rolling Stones, or even Arctic Monkeys now - I love how they blend rock n roll with a touch of ivy with leather, denim, sunglasses, boots. The white OCBD has a nice "soft bounce" to the more evocative pieces for them, and that's what I'm always thinking about with it.
Per the bandana covo - I'm still experimenting aka copying everything Zeo does until I find what works for me! Kind of the best rule.
I think you're right, but I also think the right bandana design/style may evoke a different vibe. I might also rephrase that as, I dont much of a problem mixing vibes and experimenting a bit
I'm seeing alot of people agreeing on the jewelry front, so I might try that direction first
I have a friend who is currently making me a pearl necklace
hah, yeah I was trying to using it to describe plain tees
@ClassClown :bonk:
at the end of the day, im somewhat stuck in the reality of being a big guy until I slim down. so tucking and tighter fitting tops (see: smaller and therefore less bold) are gonna be hard to pull off
which comes all the way back around to how you're (and bishop too) probably right about graphics being a good option to exercise if I can find some I like
I'm a big fan of Parra, but their 2xl shirts are just too small for me
def time to start looking around
Personally I would just look into some vintage tees on eBay!
Love me some single stitch!
You could always get Carhartt pocket tees if you're privy to new tees
vintage tees is huge sizes is a bit tough to find in person, but ebay may fair better
this is true. my gf hates vests, but she will have to learn to love me because they're probably coming
Do you have an idea of your preferred t-shirt measurements?
50-52" chest and 29.5-31" length
I only search eBay for tees inputting my measurements into the search bar and tweaking filters
Give that a shot
You may be able to find some stuff
🫡
imo depop has also been good for vintage tees
Yes!! And you can low-ball to hell on depop
🙈
@777la if you're looking for a seller
And Double Wonderful - does a monthly sale on IG
Bigfits1 on Instagram and I talked about ideal tees for bigger guys. Basically the key is boxy, high arm holes, tightish neck, crop right at the pants height
Do you try this search at p2p and double p2p?
