All games abruptly stopped working on Ally X
I'm not really sure how to start with this one, as it went from fine to dead so immediately. I have bazzite-deck installed on Ally X and I was having no problems with it, until I closed a game and then 5 minutes later absolutely nothing will launch anymore in game mode or desktop mode.
Every game, hit Play and it will go to "launching" for a second before dumping back to Steam. I've restarted multiple times, checked for updates, uninstalled and reinstalled games, the entire thing is just suddenly incapable of launching a single Steam game. If there are relevant logs somewhere, I can go looking for them but I'm just completely baffled as to how this went from 100% functional to nuked instantly.

Did you try restarting?
Many times
Grab a log for us
PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
As a launch option
It'll appear in your home dir
And lastly are you using an external drive?
Or a shared partition? No external drive, I have a Windows/bazzite dual boot but haven't been in Windows for a bit
No log file is being generated
Proton isn't even running then
Which usually happens if you don't have write or exec permissions to the drive your game is on
Are you using a shared partition for games?
No, just the split partition for the 2 OSes but I'm not trying to share files between them
Okay, if you have a keyboard in mouse close steam entirely in desktop mode
Then open a terminal and launch Steam through that
Try running a game, then give me the full output of what's in the terminal from doing that

That's interesting
It's like it's trying to run it directly and not using proton
Try forcing a compatibility tool on this title
Go with proton experimental
It's bizarre, I'm not exaggerating when I say it was working and then not minutes later
Ok that worked
and worked on a 2nd game
ohhh something weird is happening here
If I uncheck the force compatibility on the game, Steam now says it's not installed @_@
Dang even if something will start in desktop mode with forced Proton it's still broken in game mode
Maybe time to delete or rename ~/.local/share/Steam
And start over
Something is way wrong
Seems like it. I just wish I knew what happened in those 5 minutes 😆
Isn't there a new ujust for this?
Wow even that didn't clear it up. May just have to redo the whole install tomorrow
Idk if ure still have this issue but this happened to me today. After a restart an update popped up in steam big picture mode. Took about 30 minutes but after the update things all worked again
yup freshly added too 😄
ujust fix-reset-steam
I was getting this too yesterday. I couldn’t figure out what changed since I was fine the day before and I didn’t change anything. But then I found in the documentation Bazzite auto updates. So should this be fixed now, and if it doesn’t auto update, guessing J just have to kick it off manually?
just kick it off with
ujust update
but if the issue was caused by a mangled steam client file then there isnt much we can do other than the reset steam option (the ujust was made so you would lose as little data as possible, however you will still have to sign back into steam manually)Looks like Steam pushed another beta update that fixed the issue for me. I need the Steam deck beta since I utilize family sharing. But it keeps switching to the test channel.
