Best/good CPU for hosting using 2011-3 LGS socket?
Essentially the title, I’ve inherited an older dell precision workstation that has a Xeon 1603 v3 (garbage) and I want to upgrade. I’ve looked into good single thread performance chips, and it looks like the 1650v4 is performing well in the regard, but I want to be able to adequately host modded Minecraft servers for 5-8 people (as max concurrent users) in packs like ATM or chocolate version.
I have 48 GB of ddr4 2133mhz ram as well as a GTX960 installed to try and make sure I have adequate resources.
If at all possible I also want this PC to be able to stream/record while running the server, as I do have an elgato capture card I can use with it. But if the PC/server just isn’t capable without an expensive CPU upgrade I understand.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

For Minecraft, GHz or multithreaded score doesn’t matter.
Neither does a GPU help.
You want a cpu with good singlethreaded performance especially for modded
Also, of course, I do have a new SATA SSD installed.
Yeah that’s what I’ve read, but when I tried to find anything online or on Reddit about actually recent (within the last 6-12 months) builds using this socket type I’ve had issues finding if multi-threading support can help balance single-threading issues. Basically would a single-thread monster be better, or a solid single thread performance CPU that also has a larger number of cores/threads?
So…
Minecraft is mainly singlethreaded. It does offload some things to other threads, but minor things like chat processing. Basically everything is done on the main (singular) thread.
The Ryzen CPUs like the 7950X and 7600 are really good for mc
if you’re only running one server, performance won’t improve if your cpu has 64 threads or something
As it only uses a few
Gotcha, so the best single thread CPU I can get can carry its weight when it comes to modded MC, that’s all I wanted to confirm really. Thank you!
