Ventoy on SteamOS
I cant figure out how to get Ventoy on the Steam Decks native OS, what do i do?
Solution:Jump to solution
basically you have to download the software from ventoy's website, there's a download page on their site, pick the one that has linux in the filename and download it to your steam deck

what do you mean by "get Ventoy" specifically? do you not know how to download it?
yes, i mean setting it up on the device natively
idk on ubuntu i downloaded the appropriate tarball from the ventoy site you get a bunch of executables
idk if there's a native package or anything
Did you already do what redwing suggested? That lines up with what I would do
ive never used Ubuntu before, I can try to figure that out though π
downloading files from the internet isn't a distro-specific action
Solution
basically you have to download the software from ventoy's website, there's a download page on their site, pick the one that has linux in the filename and download it to your steam deck
then you have to uncompress the file, it's like a zip but it's called .tar.gz inside the folder once you do that you'll find the ventoy executables , use the x86_64 versions for steam deck.
you probably want VentoyGUI
oh okay! Thank you so much, that makes sense π
im sorry one more question, how do I put the ISO into the sd with Ventoy? I already formatted the SD i just need to get the ISO inside
do i just take the ISO over manually or does Ventoy have an option to do it I mean
ventoy will make a partition called Ventoy on the drive and you just copy it over like any other file
once ventoy boots it will let you choose any iso in that folder to boot from
i used a thumbdrive idk if sd works on steam deck boot
oh ok, thanks again, so just to clarify. I just drag the ISO over and select it in boot options? (there are no folders or anything particular in the SD after formating like the other formating option I tried previously used
after you run the ventoy gui app and add ventoy to the drive , yeah you can just drag the ISO over then you have to boot the steam deck off the ventoy drive and it will let you pick the ISO to boot from
oh ok thanks again π
