On Running
Hey yall…
I’m investing into a pair of On Running shoes… any recs on which model? Would like something I can take to the gym and wear casually

Any reason in particular it has to be On?
I do mostly trail running and have not liked their models for running (not to mention that visually they’re unappealing imo)
I’ve just heard good things from everyone I’ve seen wearing them when I asked
Can’t argue with that
How much are you looking for a dedicated runner vs a lifestyle/gym shoe
Definitely leaning towards something on the latter… I see that the last season models are on sale on their website
Alright
Do you wanna drop a few of the models you’re looking at in here?

I can’t really speak to the function of any of these but in terms of casual wear pretty much all On models are ugly to the point that I wouldn’t recommend them for casual wear
I love saucony for both running and casual wear myself
Yeah kinda what Art said tbh
A lot of on models aren’t it visually
Hoka and New Balance both do some pretty nice looking lifestyle shoes, or saucony or ASICS if you want slimmer sillhouettes closer to the Ons
all 3 of these look tough to style with anything other than athleisure. wouldnt work with jeans, chinos, or fatigues
I think you’re all right but nearly every other person in NYC wears these 😭 I don’t get it at all
nyc has so many cool dressed people, none of whom wear these im sorry
I don't doubt that these are all over ny tho
but that doesn't mean you need them lmao
there is a huge difference between running shoes and 'sport style' shoes
if you're trying to be fashionable, I recommend staying away from running shoes and aiming for sport style shoes
(ironically NMD R1s are also pretty bad running shoes)
I think it's possible to do both tbh
I kinda like a really loud runner paired with a bang average fit from time to time
This is exactly what it looks like at my job
art this might be the first time ive disagreed with you :/
its not offensive but it screams middle manager at a tech firm
it helps that you have well fitting clothes
ya this is a miss for me too
lmfao
fine
I'll bust these out tomorrow and show you all
if I can find them
imo the most running style shoe that is acceptable is a NB 997
and even they arent great
unless you are going gorpy and can pull off some of those hokas
anyway I do think shrimp is largely right in that if you're looking for a gym-oriented shoe you do kinda need to let go of your desire for it to also be fashionable in casual wear. I think at best you'll get a cool shoe that's really not all that versatile
that said, there are tons of comfortable shoes if you dont need it to be a running specific shoe
^
plus Salomon, Adidas, etc
Chunky trail runners are awesome it’s just the road shoes that are bad and have ugly colorwayd
I've run a half marathon in them, they're not so bad for that. They won't last long though.
I'll definitely agree that most shoes that are specialised for running actually kinda suck to walk around in day to day as well
OCs are also made for really specific feet types. Hella uncomfortable for some, very comfortable for others.
Best advice I got was to go into a running shoe store and get scanned, they'll pair you well for that. Just have that as your cardio shoe and don't wear it otherwise; it will last you a lot longer and your feet will thank you. Get some gray NB 574s or something on sale for the office 💪
I bought a pair of On for running after reading some reviews. They were super narrow, and while lightweight, I didn’t get the hype/review (and then I let them sit too long and had to sell for a fraction on ebay).
@ClassClown’s comment about how long they’ll last can’t be stressed enough. I wore a pair of gym shoes on a trip with tons of walking (and rain) and they were done pretty quickly after that. It’s not fun to budget for these things separately, but a lot of gym-specific shoes are made for their very specific uses. Also, separate running, gym (lifting / other), casual if you can. They’ll probably all last you longer
Strange you found them overly narrow
I found on made some of the only runners that fit my wide feet that werent explicitly 2e or above
Not to derail, but I got the Cloud X Shift. Willing to try another when I wear out my current pair of Brooks (they're
ok
, but I don't run a lot). I was going to try Altra. I wear the Solstice XT 2 as my gym shoe and find them very comfortable.
