Some friends can join and some can't

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask but I have a problem I’m really stumped by. I’m hosting a modded server with some friends. Almost all my friends easily joined, but there’s one who always times out. He tried joining Hypixel and succeeded with that, but he just can’t join my server.

What error message does it show when he is trying to connect?

its just a simple "connection timed out, no further information"

Are you home hosting?

That's weird, he's able to join other servers and other people are able to join yours but he isn't able to join yours? Did you specify an IP range in your firewall rules for source? If not it's a problem on his side, can't seem to think of any other reason for that.

yes i am our best guess is that one of the mods we have is adding something to the world that he is unable to load. he tried to create a single player world and ran into the same issue. it gets stuck on "joining world"

Does something appear on your console when the player tries to join? or do they atleast see the motd?

it only gives the message that "player joined the game", then on his end its stuck on "joining world" and after a while it says "player left the game"

oh! So we can discard all networking issues They can reach your server.. So yeah.. it probably has to do something with a mod on either your side or their side

i believe its that too at this point

The client also has a console, you can ask your player for the logs

i will try that. its already pretty late here and hes gone to bed

oh okey. The logs of the client are located on .minecraft/logs But in general, if you don't have an error on your server console, it probably means that something is wrong in the client side

yeah it was just perplexing at the start when everyone could join except him. he must have opened and closed minecraft a dozen times while we were trying to figure this out

Although now that I'm thinking.. If the message says "time out" it may still be a networking issue You can check if his ping is in a normal level, either by looking at it in the server list or doing a ping <server-ip> in the cmd.
