World "world" regenerating
Hey, i own a server running on Paper 1.21.
I don't want the world "world" to be the main world, so i changed it in
server.properties
: level-name=survie
However, everytime i restart my server, "world" files are regenerated. The strange thing is that it is no longer considered as the level-name, because playerdata are stored in the "survie" world.
I use MultiverseCore for world management, but I don't think the problem is this plugin because it doesn't load the world in /mv list
.
Do you have any idea where this could come from?49 Replies

Please mention me if you respond
Avoid multiverse if u can, would recommend MyWorlds.
Reasoning is if u plan on haven’t separate inventories, you’re completely locked into multiverse. No way to move off. MyWorlds uses the vanilla way to store player data, so u can easily migrate servers/versions without the need of multiverse
Double check ur correctly modifying the correct server.properties (not a different servers)
Then you can try starting the server with no plugins (just to make sure a plugin isn’t loading ur “world” world)
I'm using mv api in some of my plugins, so i cant avoid it
I'll try it thanks
rip, ya done fucked yo
I wanted to know if maybe there was another config where you can set the default world
Why is multiverse bad?
I explained
ur just screwed in the future
want to update the server but multiverse isn’t updated? Oh well.
Want to switch main worlds? Oh well.
Want to switch to fabric? Oh well.
Want to use the world in single player? Oh well.
Want to switch to a network (like velocity/bungeeecoord) oh well.
mv stores playerdata in the level-name world isnt it?
Nope
Which is why it’s bad
where?
Their plugin folder
Nope
wdym nope lmao. Yes it does
multiverse inventories.
Oh you are right
but i need multiverse inventories
But isnt data saved here to?
only for the main world. Nothing else
so if u wanted to have a hub world. Then create a survival world, all the survival world would be stored in multiverse folder.
Fast forward if u wanted to remove the hub world, u have to keep multiverse and u have to keep multiverse inventories
^
that shouldnt be a probleme to me...
Yeah rn it’s not
why not just use MyWorlds that’s not a problem rn, and won’t ever be a problem in the future
For example, let’s say 1 year from now ur server shuts down. But u have 1 player that really liked the world and asked “hey can I have the world file”
Well guess what. He can’t unless he also sets up a server with multiverse inventories. He can’t ever use the world in single player
If i update my server version, i'll reset all playerdata (new season), i wont switch to fabric beacause my server purpose is not to be modded, single player i dont really care of playerdata, and if i switch to a network that would be a big update, so a new season
My server map is 100+ gb 🥵
So?
(without optical fiber it's really horrible to manage)
Cool, not related at all tho lmao
And my server purpose isnt to be played alone
I am and the other owner to 😢
just saying man. It’s a really bad philosophy to be lazy and not do the correct thing cause it’s not a problem rn
you will regret it in the future
it not being a problem rn doesn’t mean it’s not a problem.
I've used mv for years and i has never been a problem, moreover i said some of my plugins are using mv api, so i dont have time to rework all those plugins
like what? A lot of plugins also work with MyWorlds. MyWorlds isn’t some small dinky little world management plugin. It also has a lot of features that multiverse lacks that people generally use multiverse addons for (ie. StayPut)
I'm using MVWorldManager class

Just saying, there’s no reason to not use going forward. If ur already locked in that’s fine. Next server update, ur just being dumb to not migrate.
what about that?
MyWorlds isnt compatible with 1.21 rn
And does it have a feature that resets the world?
Yes it is
It works on 1.21
how?
I haven’t used the api, so idk
Maybe a command?
Developer is very active too, would recommend asking them directly
We aren't being lazy, we just don't see the advantage of My world over Multiverse in our situation. We used it for several years now and we never had really big problems with it.
(co owner)
(yes)
^ this is the main reason
It’s one of those things that’s not a problem now but can become a problem in the future. You’re right, it might never be a problem for you guys. Can it become a problem? Yes. 100%
What happens in 1.20.1 drops next month and multiverse doesn’t update? Well fuck. You can’t migrate ur inventories. If you were using MyWorlds, everything is stored the vanilla way, if MyWorlds didn’t update u could easily switch to any other world management plugin
Oh ok, I see
The main advantage of My world is the players data management?
yes, it stores player data the vanilla way in each respective worlds folder.
Multiverse (only if ur using mv inventories) stores it their own way in their plugin folder.
But yes, if multiverse updates, and u continue to use the exact same setup, you’ll be fine it’ll work great. I’m not saying it’s broken rn.
Issue is what could happen. For example multiverse stops updating. Or other reasons listed.
Another example, which is very common, After a season reset, if u have players who would like to play on the on world and ask u for a world download, (obviously you’d trim the world so it’s not 60+gbs) Well, they won’t be able to play on the world in single player without losing all their player data. (If u were using mv inventories). If they want all their player data, that player would have to setup a server themselves. Install mv inventories, (you would also have to give them the multiverse data) It’s one of those things, just CAN become a problem. My philosophy is, if ur using it currently, that’s ok! Keep using it. Next server update/reset, be asking, how can we switch to MyWorlds (or any other world management plugin that stores data the vanilla way)

Ok
Thank you for the explanations
I think we'll stay with multiverse but it's always good to know what can replace it
I’m not trying to hate on multiverse, I used it many years and loved it, only until it became a problem and heavily regretted it.
And in this discord, server owners come in asking how they can migrate, cause of many reasons. And the answer is the SOL.
it’s very common problem with the plugin. U love it until u realize u fucked up and it’s too late
I guess that's the only way for us to change
Well, I’m just saying next server update do the change. That way you’re already starting over. Do the change before u regret it
I already experienced the playerdata reset when using the server's world on single player but it didn't really affect me since I'm admin and don't play on it.
Alright 👍
If multiverse were to implement a way to migrate, or use vanilla’s method to store player data then it be back to being the best world management plugin
Yeah ok
