hemming your pants is the process of shortening the length of the pant leg at the hem (cuff)
I take my pants to my local dry cleaner to get them hemmed.
there's a few ways to do it - use a pair of scissors to cut off the extra fabric or fold the extra fabric to the inside of the pants and tape/glue/sew it secured
or like jfar says, get a tailor or dry cleaner to do it for you
If you want the hem raw instead of finished a lot of industrial tools can give you a fun edge
