For those of you that are salary based, its required that we have 40 hours every week. So I had to go to my J2 for some onboarding and I told J1 I had to take my gf to the doctor. Would you just log 40 hours on the timesheet anways if it was like a couple hours? Not really sure what happens if youdon't log 40 hours a week

They don't ever check, it is very loosely managed My hpw for this J is like 15 but I put 40 I guess a better phrasing is If I put 38 instead of 40, do I just get paid for 38 or would there be emails and stuff questioning what happened

On these things I usually just say I worked 8-12,1-5. If you are salaried they care about the value you are delivering and not whether you actually started at 8:30 on Tuesday. Same thing with most hourly jobs too.

think my company specifies the range of like 9-5 somewhere, so it'd be safer to aim near 8

I'm surprised you even have a timesheet for salary. I've only ever had one for consulting and when overtime was an option. Otherwise time tracking wasn't a thing. Mostly time tracking in general is loose. No one cares as long as you're generally available during the hours you say you are and your work gets done

Exempt = Means no overtime. Therefore, any tracking of time is merely for company recording keeping or HR purposes. Non-Exempt = Means still subject to minimum wage laws, therefore logging time matters more.
