Get a button down shirt bigger or smaller
I am looking for a button-down casual shirt to wear untucked. I am between sizes at some of the places I went to. I am a bit overweight, but not so much that I fill out the bigger-size shirts.
I am in the UK and have tried DIESEL and MOSS shirts. At both places, the smaller shirt was the correct length but a bit too slim. Meanwhile, the bigger shirt was too big. It felt like I was wearing a bigger person's shirt.
I cannot get the shirts tailored.
I would appreciate your recommendation of a good brand for button-down shirts under £100 in the UK.
I prefer to go to the store to try it on before I purchase the shirt.
Many thanks for considering my request. :blushiecat2:

As a general statement, go for the bigger size if the smaller feels too slim, shirts shouldn't be constricting at all. Similarly you don't need to fill out a shirt - Having a bit of 'billow' can be cool (and is definitely the on-trend thing rather than the super slim shirts of yesteryear
I feel you on the difficulty of shopping in-person in the UK though, tbh I pretty much gave up on that years ago and pretty much exclusively buy online now. If you take a chest measurement and also measure a shirt that fits you well currently, you can pretty much be confident in size guides online (usually!)
Brick & mortar options will greatly depend on which city you're near. I don't like many of the general high-street shops here really, and the big department stores are pretty lacking too. But there's loads and loads of cool smaller brands, just a case of crossing your fingers and hoping there's a stockist nearby
What sort of casual style are you looking for?
Thank you for the response. I will go for the bigger size then. And I'll also try to find shirts online, as I have a T-shirt that fits me well. I am looking for OCBD and polo shirts right now. Lately, I have mostly been wearing T-shirts and hoodies.
(I am trying to change my style to more Polo/OCBD/occasional Hoodie, mostly slim/straight-fit jeans, and nice shoes (Chelsea boots, sneakers, etc.). I am regaining an interest in fashion after a long time and will change things up as I lose weight.)
I am told I have a slimmer frame for my height (approximately 6'1) and build (I am overweight).
I am currently looking into workwear style as well.
Someone here a while ago compiled this great list of UK and EU brands https://sachagoat.notion.site/81c4078b47e646cda68fadad9e2eaf09?v=a31355f65def46bdae723a31827284bc

A lot to dig through maybe, but there's filters for types of clothing and price range
And honestly for basics then like Next, GAP, Uniqlo all perfectly fine
My main UK shopping cheat code though is Vinted.co.uk
Next, Uniqlo, M&S and John Lewis all sell ok basics in a wide variety of sizes and are in most bigger cities and some smaller ones.
Thank you. :SCfloppaHEART:
is Vinted trusted?
Are the things on their website originals, or is it more like eBay, where it depends on individual orders?
Depends on the seller etc.
