IPV6 Self Hosting
Hello! I'm trying to host on an old dell prebuilt that's running Fedora 40 Server, and am currently struggling at getting players to connect. My ISP gave me a new router, and none of my devices have public IPV4s, and only the router does. Everything is port forwarded properly, but I still can't get players to join, as they all get getsockopt errors. Any help with this? I've tried having someone connect from the router's IPV4 but another getsockopt error was pushed.

My ISP gave me a new router, and none of my devices have public IPV4s, and only the router does...what? why do you not have ipv4 I feel like the router is just misconfigured or your ISP fucked up real bad
That's... That's normal. That's what NAT is for.
Why does he not have an ipv4???
Am I just misunderstanding something
He said public IP. All of his devices won't have public IPv4 addresses, they'll have private ones. His router should be the device with a public IPv4 address.
...oh.
right

Damn I'm on a god damn streak!
Getsockopt is often a firewall issue
Ah, I'll have to check it. I think the router might've undid the port forwarding (spectrum's routers suck for hosting) because it is no longer open
Which is fun. Thank you, Senor Leche. I'll get back to that once I can, it restarts the entire router when I port forward for some reason (the last one didn't) so I'll have to wait till later.
I use spectrum myself, haven't had issues with NAT or port forwarding
Ah, interesting. My router the newest model because my last Netgear one got fried in a lightning strike (even though it was conencted to a surge protector, I'm quite salty about that) and it requires a stupid app to port forward.
So, the port forwarding is perfectly fine on my server machine, and the port is open, and I added firewall exceptions but it still doens't work. There's still a getsockopt
I think I'll just transport the server to a friend's and have them host it, as I cannot replace my router
If the traffic is making it to the server, it isn't the router causing problems
Then what could it be?
We had the exact same issue but although twas on a shared host and not self hosted. We never found what the issue was and the issue only extended to some people and for most it was resolved by using a different DNS such as Google's or Cloudflare's. For others a VPN worked. And yet for some others, using a different launcher worked. These were just some random things players did that ended up clearing up the issue.
Ah, alright. Maybe I'll try and do those things
What's strange is that on my personal computer on my personal network, it turns out I can connect to the server with IPv6 but as soon as someone from outside the network tries, it getsockopts
Thank you!
im following this because i too have spectrum but a netgear router and have some issues with self hosting
I had a netgear router before a lightning strike took out my router. What seems to be your problem?
well depending on the panel i use i cant connect outside my network (except moonlight) and youre right i have to use portmapper program to do the UPnP to port but some still say closed and wont connect like sons of the forest
I don't know if UPnP works with Minecraft without mods
you might have to manually forward the 25565 port
i had to do it that way to open that port Y_Y i wonder if it is my router
Maybe it is
I'm sure there's a way to get it working though, and if somebody who can comes across this, I'm sure you'll get the help you need
awesome appreciate it! i hate this router >< its my own router but lord id like to openwrt it
mhmm
I hate my router too lmao
i cant even get ipv6 to work properly T_T
ipv6 isn't suppored well I'm pretty sure
I seem to have some luck rerouting my internet traffic through a subdomain
i really should get a subdomain but ugh. spending to much money as it is T_T hate being an adult ðŸ˜
it didn't work for me when i tested it elsewhere, but there's a free option

That isn't how domains work
A domain is just a listing in a phone book, it doesn't make your traffic route differently.
I got recommended using a AAAA subdomain for some reason, and I tried it and it didn't work unless I was connecting from the network the server is hosted on
Minecraft doesn't support ipv6
Damn. I'll have to try something else then
Welp, thank you for your help, I appreciate it
