question about ram

Today I went to Best Buy and got an additional 32 gigs of 3600mhz ram to be able to locally host on my pc and play at the same time. My current specs are: Ryzen 5700x processor 48gb Corsair vengeance pro ram Fidium fiber internet However, my ram seems to be capped at 2133mhz even when I try over clocking it with D.O.C.P in my motherboard’s bios (asus tuf b450 pro). Will my server run good with these specs if I dedicate 16 gigs to my own game and 16 gigs to the server (not public, it’s a white listed SMP but I plan to add lots of mods and add lots of players). I know people recommend running a server on a separate pc, but this circumstance would be okay, right?

ram is typically the least of your problems for a minecraft server performance if u have enough, ur chillin and 16gb, even if its only at 2133mhz... ur more than chillin if u got fiber internet, and ur pc is etherneted in (not wireless) ur honestly vibing hard with that setup. What kind of disk drive you got?

i can only use my pair of 16gb sticks if i wanna run at 3600mhz, taking me down from 48gb of ram to 32gb of ram unfortunately. my 2 8gb sticks wont overclock for some reason

well realistically u wont need more than 32gb unless ur planning on running multiple servers 16gb is the max u ever wanna throw at a server, and 12gb is more than enough 12gb server, 8gb client (for u playing locally) and that leaves another 12gb for ur OS and other apps u wanna run like disc 48 is a bit over kill lmao

more then likely ur original ram are run at 2133mhz and itll cap all of ur ram at the lowest speed between the sticks i dont believe you can just overclock ram like that

Nope, it’s also 3600

tbf the difference between 2133 and 3600 is probs negligable when it comes to running a mc server

saltifiedOP6mo ago
True but I also play on the same system, do u think the difference would still be negligible

probably

Yeah well it wuxks to have 16gb lying around of perfectly fine ram that I could be using but am not just because it’s not overclocking Sucks* I guess I’ll see if it feels different

like are you sure both sticks of 8gb are 3600?

Could be an issue with the motherboard Also ram configuration is very important, which slots u put them in, and etc. And not having all of the exact same memory sticks hurts performance For examples fours 8gbs perform a lot better than a 16gb and two 8gbs. So the number 48, is already a bad sign cause math.

Yes 100% I put the pair of 8gb sticks in A1 and B1, then the pair of 16gb sticks in A2 and B2. Both pairs are Corsair vengeance pro, I set them to 3600 with XMP in the bios (fully up to date) and they won’t change from 2133 unless I just skip using the pair of 8gb sticks, which on their own I can’t get to 3600 even though they’re 3600 sticks.

Well could be u didn’t actually get 3600 sticks and or they are faulty. Do u still have the receipt

I remember they used to run at 3600mhz 100% I haven’t configured my pc in years until the last few days tho, and it’s now I’m realizing they’re only running at 2133 no matter what I do

Welcome to technology Another reason to not self host so u don’t gotta deal with stuff like this sticks work, then they don’t. Good news is they still work, just not at their peak.
