zen browser is based on firefox and has a similar feature. been using it for a while, it's solid
Didn't Theo have a stream this week about switching away from Arc? If so, does anyone know what he switched to?
Zen Browser, based on firefox
@Marchewcia zen is based on Firefox and has that functionality
I tried zen, but I can’t. I’m requiring some addons and website performance.
I tried Vivaldi which is very promising, if they let me get rid of the top bar. (And improve ui in general)
can you explain what are you not liking in zen?
@Eren© biggest painpoint is the missing Hubspot addon and the missing official 1Password support (I know there’s a workaround for 1p, but with reduced comfort).
Further, and this is so far more of a feeling: it just doesn’t feel as fast and well supported as chrome based browsers.
And a thing that really triggers me (is just me?) is that on CMD+T it focuses the address field, but doesn’t show the flowing command pallet and once you start typing it shows the command pallet.
If you fix the command pallet thing and switch Firefox engine for chromium, I’m in!
And to be honest, there’s currently only two thing that I really don’t like about arc: the lost keystrokes when start typing right after CMD+T (at least on windows) and the fact that it sometimes things I want to search, even though I have a full address incl. protocol in my command pallet.
About the cmd+t not opening the command pallette immediately, it sucks so bad ngl. I literally disabled floating pallette because of that.
I never used hubspot or 1Password so that's not really a issue for me.
And you're right, it's very noticeable slower than chromium browsers. Though, I use thorium which is really really fast so maybe that's why I notice it so much.
In the past fewer updates, they also removed the option to disable workspaces which I don't understand why
Performance is improving with every update and I believe it wouldn't be much of a difference as it continues to improve but the UI changes with every update just feels decremental
