fix heel wear on sneakers
i drag my heels a little bit and always run into this issue. i tried to shape and glue some heel rubber thing but that fell off pretty quickly and local shoe repair shops said not much can be done.
Has anyone found a way to fill/fix this type of wear to prolong the life of sneakers?
And also, is there any sort of heel toppy or something to prevent it that’s worked for you?

People that have the habit of scraping the ground with their heels first usually suffer from poor ankle mobility (dorsiflexion)

Got poor ankle mobility and want to improve your ankle dorsiflexion? Try these simple (but very effective) exercises to fix your tight ankles.
If you work on your gait, future you won't have to worry about your shoes getting cooked too quickly
That makes sense, my heel strike started after a really bad ankle injury from soccer. will definitely look into that!
I did try shoe protectors like that. They didn’t come with the adhesive but used shoe goo and they fell off within 2-3 days. i did clean and used sandpaper to give the adhesive a better chance as well
Ah, it's all adding up - def look into those exercises then
Hmm, maybe next time you can bring them to the cobbler on a brand new pair of shoes, I'm sure they have some industrial-grade adhesive that would work better than shoe goo
For sneakers that are hard or costly to resole, I would put a heeltap on them as soon as you get them, in the spot you notice the most wear on old sneakers
prevention is better than treatment in these cases
I’ve tried that but i guess my heel drag is bad enough that they come off after a few days. do you have any specific recs? I’m definitely gonna try what damb suggested above and have a cobbler put the ones i already have
I feel like the heel taps are a bandaid for the larger problem, which is your gait
Treatment of the underlying cause is the move
plastic ones? like this
in days??
And this is no diss to you, a lot of people have poor body mechanics
Yep. I have dress shoes with this type and zero issues, but they fell off my chucks fairly quickly
No offence taken. I know my body is banged up from sports injuries and have tried a bunch of mobility exercises/physio over the years to try to fix it
your cobbler could glue some topys to the sole!
i have similar issue, albeit not as bad as yours and I added of pair of these sole protectors to a pair of converse
where i live, it only set me back 15€
vibram sells some of these full sole topys
