what are your goals
Building it for my kids, they are very familiar with vanilla, so I wanted to have the option of mods
I would like a map system, to keep track of exploration
do you care about vanilla parity
I'm sure there are other things I'll add over time
I know back in the early days Forge was the go-to for mods
paper has plugins, fabric/forge has mods
So parity is being able to allow both Bedrock and Java access?
there are mod versions and plugin versions for whichever you decide
though I may be biased I would recommend paper, since it's just easier to make an optimized server with, you'll get more support here, less likely to end up with some infinite crash loop or something stupid from some old modpack that doesn't have support anymore, etc.
A map system to keep track of exploration? There's both dynmap and xaero's minimap and worldmap
dynmap is more complex to set up and is server side where you access it from a website, xaero's is client side and you access it ingame
Dynmap is also bad
Hmm no canned response for that
