Summer Wedding Outfit ideas

Hey all. I’m going to a wedding late August in central IL where I’m sure it’ll be hot! The invite said “dressy casual” which I am interpreting as “no shorts” lol. I got married myself last year and unfortunately my suit/shirt don’t fit me as well because I’ve put on a few pounds since. I bought some AE 5th avenues in Walnut and I would like to use those cause I have em! I’m also willing to get some casual leather derbies/mocs. I’m thinking of picking up something linen or tropical wool? I’d like to do either a casual suit or just do a blazer/trouser combo. What suggestions do folks have? I live in Chicago too btw.

wedding dress codes are so weird. I guess I would interpret "dressy casual" as long pants and a button-up shirt. I'd probably wear loose linen pants, a button-up shirt, possibly short-sleeve, and loafers. a linen or tropical wool blazer would dress it up. oxfords like your AEs might be a bit formal for that outfit, though. but I'm not sure I would worry about it. There was a recent thread about places to shop in Chicago: https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1247218240825065565 I've had pretty good luck finding second-hand linen stuff from PRL on eBay.

Yeah, I think I def want a jacket or something so I don’t look too much like a middle school band concert And I’m also looking for classic/wide fit pants I did suitsupply for my wedding suit and it was too slim I think (and the in store tailoring was Not Good lol)

Yeah, I'd love to find a linen blazer in tan or a similar light color. I think that would be solid here. Or maybe blue.

are you able to ask the wedding party for context? i would assume either an unstructured suit or separates (blazer and trousers) but that's just me. if you go the route of separates you can probably find something while thrifting or on ebay easy mode would be tan jacket/navy pants (or inverted). lightweight suit + aloha shirt is also an option

I did ask the groom lol and he basically said “no shorts” and “dress for hot weather” so I really had no direction What would be a good place to look for these items? JCrew? I’m willing to spend a few hundred bucks for the outfit I just don’t know where to get these high rise trousers everyone has on

for high rise trousers some mall brands will have them, like j.crew's giant chino or classic fit chinos you'll find more options going on ebay - vintage polo ralph lauren pants are known to be high rise (andrews have pleats, philips don't) for a summer suit, that will depend on your specific budget - around $400 MSRP is the starter price for ***decent mall brands like j.crew or banana republic, or online at spier & mackay if it's less than that, i would say look at secondhand options like ebay or thrifting - knowing your measurements (chest, shoulder, sleeve, etc.) will help considerably in this
