Discord chat integration ethics?
Hey guys, I was just trying to get varying opinions on the general feeling of chat integration on Discord on a small community focused server. I'm kinda torn between it right now because while it would be cool to communicate with people on the server through Discord while you're away, as well as being a powerful moderation tool, I feel like it could also be used by normal members for creeping on conversations while players are otherwise unaware of someone's presence on the Discord side of things.

i mean, you could just add a config command (i.e i use literally
/config), and allow the players to have their chat messages sent through discord, having it disabled by default
also easier said than done as you may need a developer to do this for youThat is true, but I feel like it would make the chat weird and remove a lot of context if only certain people's messages showed up
honestly inform players of the discord chat integration, they should already know their convos arent 100% private either how
There’s no expectation of privacy on a public Minecraft server

I could also add chat channels maybe as an opt-out system. Have a public chat channel as default and a server chat channel maybe
not wrong, i mean there shouldn't be a privacy issue though
i dont know of any servers that integrate chat into a discord bot that have issues
You’d really need a bigger sample size to see if it’s a problem

Big servers usually don’t go for it, because they really don’t need to integrate chat with discord on a big server
Hey if a player is that concerned about privacy they should realize /tell still gets logged by the server
But also, players don’t want to private message for every time they wanna talk in chat
Especially not in a team setting
if the conversation needs to be so private as to be hidden from server logs then dms also exist

But at that point whatever they’re talking about is definitely not good
Like “hey let’s hack this server and doxx the owner”
