Watch the lee alexander mcqueen documentary
It's incredible but also might ruin other fashion media for you bc the caliber is so high
The Devil Wears Prada is a classic
though tbf, its less about fashion and fashion is just more of a background noise
Their is an Anna wintour doc on amazon prime i thought was really good
project runway, despite having many of the trappings of reality tv in the early 2000s, is nontheless a fun and somewhat probing view into the fashion industry (it is largely through the lens of womenswear) including the design process from end to end, the need to marry ones personal aesthetic to a particular brand or client or challenge, the notion of wearability and practicql considerations of fashion and a subset of the kind of people who become fashion designers and their inspiration for doing so
if you do watch, finish after season 5 and also watch '11 minutes' which describes the first winner of project runway's journey to making their first ready to wear collection post-show
"the gospel according to andré" is a documentary on andré leon talley, who is quite possibly my favorite person associated with the fashion industry. his memoirs are also great reads
Seconding the McQueen piece as the class of the genre
Valentino: The Last Emperor is quite good but not necessarily that focused on the fashion aspect as much as his relationship with his partner
Given your love of chore coats the Bill Cunningham doc is also worth a watch
Watched the McQueen documentary. Really good. Really sad.
