can I pull this off as a suit separate? what combos can I rock with this?

This is on sale at BR, comes out to 150 CAD which is within budget. I can get blazers from Mango but they don't come in 42S.

kinda - it'a not bad for an orphaned jacket but if you know what you're looking for specifically (size, actual measurements) you can find actual navy blazers/sportcoats on ebay or other sites for less if you've never bought tailoring from BR before (especially double breasted) i'd encourage trying it on in person first; my only experience with BR suiting was they ran large relative to my actual suit size

Oh shit ok good call, they don't have this exact model in the stores, but you think I can get a comparative fit if I try another double breasted jacket out

yes - i think BR sizing is more or less consistent within itself but not compared to other brands it would at least give an idea of what numeric size works for you vis a vis what's offered online (plus you might still need whatever jacket you get altered after)

I'm reading around that a double breasted jacket is too formal for use as a blazer - is that correct to say? Ty for your help btw

i've heard both arguments, that double breasted is more casual and less casual, and have seen fits to support both (search in #waywt for posts from The Teenage Gentleman lol or coolguyjason for more examples)

if you do not currently own a blazer/sport coat i would get a single breasted jacket - it's easier to wear as the silhouette isn't as different from other clothing. this guide gets into it a little more https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/blazer-guide

if you have the time i'd get your measurements (either go to a department store/suiting retailer that sells suits and they'll do it for you or find a youtube vid on how to do it yourself) and then search secondhand for a better priced suit than the one linked

I went to Moore's and they told me 42S is my size, but then again if it changes brand to brand, I might want another opinion lol Thanks for the tips, I agree a single breasted blazer for my first and probably main blazer is the right call Id be lying if I said this wasn't all overwhelming though lol

it can be overwhelming at first; the benefit is once you go through it once it's a whole lot easier they may have told you your size but it's much more impactful to get your measurements (shoulder, neck, sleeve, etc.), that way you can compare them to the actual garment versus just a size number

this is a good way to get your measurements, or, a suiting store can do it for you https://youtu.be/nwBniB9amJY?si=yPN42Ag1tRd59yGB
