Bazzite Cuts off after 15-20 of gaming
- using the Ayaneo Slide
- installed Bazzite overlay over Fedora 40 (gnome)
- testing using Red Dead Redemption 2. It plays ultra/high for the same 20 minutes as it plays low.
- the Journal complains about idling and the gnome screensaver. I turned this off on the GUI and the cli from fedora desktop. Still seems to cut off and restart if I leave bazzite on a game. After turning it off it still crashes but instead of activating the screen saver now it says it cant find it I would like it to never try if I'm in a game
Thanks for any advice, please let me know if there are more snippets I can fetch

Dconf/settings were both set to idle-activation-false btw
What are you doing
Use bazzite-deck-gnome
Looking for errors in the log, trying what I found before asking questions, providing relevant logs, and letting you know where I'm stuck. (I could have just written "oppsie doopsie the deck go out" and not tried, as most users would). Anyway I'll look up the bazzite specific command and ask questions if im still stuck, didn't know it needed its own, assumed it inherited settings from fedora.
I don't know what bazzite overlay is
The gamemode doesn't have a screensaver
When you install Bazzite overtop of Fedora 40 instead of installing Bazzite out of the box
What does that mean
You used the rebase command?
Ok let me link you your documentation
Yes
Over kinoite
No silver light
Oh yes gnome to gnome
What image did you do the rebase to
One sec I'll link the document I used π
So the rebase command I used was
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-deck-gnome:stable
I used the instructions on the home page for aynaneo/gnome
Wait hold on
That's not it
Sorry using my phone
Wait yeah it's this:
I followed that from a forum link

Did this after the generic and ayaneo isos failed to install outright
Works really well besides the cutoff issue. Journalctl shows it trying to idle right before it reboots. So I was hoping to turn idling off entirely, since I plan to just power the device off
So in gamemode it crashes after 20 min?
Journalctl says it tries to idle, then fails and shows a reboot.
Plays great up until then
Tried to rule out factors like heat, power or playing on too high of settings by making adjustments but noticed I'd get to about the same point before it crashed each time before looking at the logs so the idle theory tracks to me
But if you have other suggestions I am also glad to look there π
Ayaneo slide randomly crashes after 20 or so minutes
In Linux in general
We don't know why
Oh shoot, that's disappointing. Do you happen to have a doc handy that goes over that issue? I'd like to look into myself but didn't find much. Thank you
Unfortunately no docs, @Smash and Crash tried to work with it
I did. I gave up because no matter what I did, it crashed. I was only able to fix it on windows because I installed official wifi drivers and not the ones Ayaneo provided.
So mine doesn't have an issue in windows. It also doesn't seem to have the issue out of game, like it can be left on the steam screen or the desktop. It'll go idle but won't crash and reboot (I can turn it back on by hitting the keys or power button)
I need to do a little more testing after I've changed the settings. I'm on a road trip rn but I can update with my findings in a few days
Yea the issue with it on windows was outdated wi-fi drivers. (Atleast for me) They added more recent ones a while back. Linux is a completely different story sadly.
Fixed this! Turning off the dimming settings is what did it. The Ayaneo slide doesnt recognize controller input as keep awake. It also isn't sure what do in Bazzite game mode when it receives a dim signal so it crashes. Same for gnome screensaver. Turning both off is a work around and I was able to run rdr for an hour just now
It's the screen brightness?
That's what crashes it?
I would have never thought that. Kudos to you for solving this. Ayaneo never ceases to amaze with their issues.
