usb... 1.0?
what type of system are you using?
yeah you know how they got different speeds the usb1.0 is slow and white then idk abt 2.0 and 3.0 is superspeed and is blue
windows 11
i don't think PCs have been manufactured with USB 1.0 in like 20 years
USB 2.0 is the most common "slow" one
this is likely a hardware issue with whatever USB to SATA adapter you're using
nah but i have a usb 1.0 cable here
it has that white line in it
but its just the cable thats 1.0 i think
its like this old little silver casing to put the disk in
and then it has a weird port
and on the other end it has a usb 1.0 port
USB 1.0 and 2.0 cables are the same
and im not even sure this is related to the pc seeing it wrong
im just guessing
it's probably not, USB is digital
if it recognizes it at all it's not a cable or port problem
yeah but it's not gonna be able to get the full ssd speed if the usb is too slow no?
but like i said, USB 1.0 is a very dead technology and the cables use the same wiring as USB 2.0
so 2.0 should be good?
the colors are not a hard indication of support
but blue is always 3.0 right?
not always
when is it not
when they make them a different color
there's no law that says you have to color USB ports any particular way
USB 3 ports will be labeled "SS" and physically have more wires if you look inside the port
back to USB 2, it's limited to 60MB/s so no you will not get the full SSD speed
what exactly do you mean by it appears as a HDD and not a SSD
disk B
it says solid state drive on the actual disk
it's almost definitely a problem with your USB to SATA adapter
so its probably the fact that it's 2.0 then right?
no
the USB version has nothing to do with this
it has everything to do with how your adapter is choosing to report the drive to the OS
but if usb2.0 cant possibly give enough speed to support ssd then that wouldnt work either way
forget USB versions
they don't have anything to do with this, all that affects is your maximum transfer speed
well this adapter is a little weird like sometimes i'll have to plug it in 20 times for it to recognise the disk even though it made the noise that it recognised it but that was before i put the ssd in the thing that was when it had an hhd in but now that hhd is in the pc and the ssd is the one in the casing now
hdd*
again, your adapter is the problem
so a new adapter would fix it?
probably
even then, the fact it's reporting as a HDD isn't going to make it not work
the biggest issue will be reducing the life of the SSD if the OS tries to defragment it
but even if it does work if i get the usb2.0 adapter then im still not gonna be able to utilize the full potential of the SSD speed cause it's not gonna be fast enough right
correct, you can only fix that by using a higher speed USB port/adapter

CableDeconn Mini SAS 36P SFF-8087 auf 4 SATA 7-Pin 90 Grad Target Festplatten-Datenkabel blau 0,5 m
the problem should be fixed?
uhh
that's a SAS breakout cable
that is not at all what you want
but that goes on the motherboard right?
does your motherboard have SAS ports?
what is your actual goal here
do you want to install more drives in your PC?
yeah
do you have free SATA ports on your motherboard?
i was gonna put that where this goes from on the motherboard
i was hoping its the same port
it's not
SAS and SATA are different
welp
you want a SATA cable
yeah this is sata
the one you linked is not SATA
it's SAS to SATA
you need SATA on both ends
if you're trying to find a SATA splitter, that doesn't exist
how come
because it doesn't work like that
if you need more SATA ports you have to get a PCIe card that adds them
SATA Card, PCIE 3.0, 4 Port with 4 SATA Cable, SATA Controller Expa...
Ziyituod PCIe SATA Card, 4 Port with 4 SATA Cable, SATA Controller Expansion Card with Low Profile Bracket, Marvell 9215 Non-Raid, Boot as System Disk, Support 4 SATA 3.0 Devices
(idk if that one is good, it's the first one i clicked)
but if i have a SAS then i don't have to?
you almost definitely do not have a SAS
is it hard to get sas?
why do you want sas
your drive is sata
cause then i have like 4 extra ports for just the like 13 euros
well you don't because you don't have a SAS port on your motherboard
and a motherboard with SAS is going to cost way more than 13 euros
well the other thing also
what you actually want is more SATA ports, which you can get with a card like the one i linked
then i get 4 ports?
you get as many ports as the card has on it
if you want more, get a card with more
or more cards
so this one has 2 ?
i mean, count the cables coming off of it
or read the description
i mean i counted 2 and it says there are 4
unfortunately you are counting wrong
im counting the blue cables going off
it
there are 4 of them...
oh right they're layered
btw do you know how to select all layers in fl studio
on the piano thing
are you sure your motherboard doesn't have any additional SATA ports?
find a FL studio discord to ask this
you're kind of lucky i'm giving you general PC hardware help in a C# server in the first place
i mean yeah true
i saw 3 cables from one location that are sata 2 went over to the 2 disks that came with the pc and then then another one going to the part where you put the cd in and then the bigger part the one that came from the charging area there are 2 extra ones
but there seem to be no extra ports or cables for the smaller data sata
when you say there are extra ones but they're not the "smaller data sata" what does that mean
what is the model number of your motherboard
i mean this one
and i don't know can i check that on the pc?
that's for power, not data
yeah
it would probably be faster to just take a picture of the whole motherboard tbh
i mean you can barely see it cause there are other components blocking most of the view of it but i can still take a picture if it helps
doesn't really matter, i just wanted to confirm
if you're out of sata ports you need one of those cards, that's basically your solution
how do i know that i even have a thing on the motherboard that i can put this card into
by looking at your motherboard
you probably have one
ok im gonna look before i order it then
you think the cables come with it?
it can go in any PCIe slot that is long enough to fit it, including ones that are longer than the card
idk, check the description of the one you buy
for the one you linked it doesnt seem to say
nvm
it does have them
cool
ye
welp ty
