usb... 1.0? what type of system are you using?
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
yeah you know how they got different speeds the usb1.0 is slow and white then idk abt 2.0 and 3.0 is superspeed and is blue windows 11

i don't think PCs have been manufactured with USB 1.0 in like 20 years USB 2.0 is the most common "slow" one this is likely a hardware issue with whatever USB to SATA adapter you're using
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
nah but i have a usb 1.0 cable here it has that white line in it but its just the cable thats 1.0 i think its like this old little silver casing to put the disk in and then it has a weird port and on the other end it has a usb 1.0 port

Jimmacle5mo ago
USB 1.0 and 2.0 cables are the same
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
and im not even sure this is related to the pc seeing it wrong im just guessing
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
it's probably not, USB is digital if it recognizes it at all it's not a cable or port problem
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
yeah but it's not gonna be able to get the full ssd speed if the usb is too slow no?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
but like i said, USB 1.0 is a very dead technology and the cables use the same wiring as USB 2.0
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
so 2.0 should be good?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
the colors are not a hard indication of support
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
but blue is always 3.0 right?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
not always
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
when is it not
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
when they make them a different color there's no law that says you have to color USB ports any particular way USB 3 ports will be labeled "SS" and physically have more wires if you look inside the port back to USB 2, it's limited to 60MB/s so no you will not get the full SSD speed what exactly do you mean by it appears as a HDD and not a SSD

disk B
No description
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
it says solid state drive on the actual disk
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
it's almost definitely a problem with your USB to SATA adapter
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
so its probably the fact that it's 2.0 then right?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
no the USB version has nothing to do with this it has everything to do with how your adapter is choosing to report the drive to the OS
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
but if usb2.0 cant possibly give enough speed to support ssd then that wouldnt work either way
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
forget USB versions they don't have anything to do with this, all that affects is your maximum transfer speed
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
well this adapter is a little weird like sometimes i'll have to plug it in 20 times for it to recognise the disk even though it made the noise that it recognised it but that was before i put the ssd in the thing that was when it had an hhd in but now that hhd is in the pc and the ssd is the one in the casing now hdd*
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
again, your adapter is the problem
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
so a new adapter would fix it?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
probably even then, the fact it's reporting as a HDD isn't going to make it not work the biggest issue will be reducing the life of the SSD if the OS tries to defragment it
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
but even if it does work if i get the usb2.0 adapter then im still not gonna be able to utilize the full potential of the SSD speed cause it's not gonna be fast enough right
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
correct, you can only fix that by using a higher speed USB port/adapter
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
the problem should be fixed?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
uhh that's a SAS breakout cable that is not at all what you want
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
but that goes on the motherboard right?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
does your motherboard have SAS ports? what is your actual goal here do you want to install more drives in your PC?
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
yeah
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
do you have free SATA ports on your motherboard?
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
i was gonna put that where this goes from on the motherboard
No description
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
i was hoping its the same port
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
it's not SAS and SATA are different
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
welp
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
you want a SATA cable
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
yeah this is sata
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
the one you linked is not SATA it's SAS to SATA you need SATA on both ends if you're trying to find a SATA splitter, that doesn't exist
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
how come
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
because it doesn't work like that if you need more SATA ports you have to get a PCIe card that adds them
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
SATA Card, PCIE 3.0, 4 Port with 4 SATA Cable, SATA Controller Expa...
Ziyituod PCIe SATA Card, 4 Port with 4 SATA Cable, SATA Controller Expansion Card with Low Profile Bracket, Marvell 9215 Non-Raid, Boot as System Disk, Support 4 SATA 3.0 Devices
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
(idk if that one is good, it's the first one i clicked)
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
but if i have a SAS then i don't have to?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
you almost definitely do not have a SAS
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
is it hard to get sas?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
why do you want sas your drive is sata
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
cause then i have like 4 extra ports for just the like 13 euros
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
well you don't because you don't have a SAS port on your motherboard and a motherboard with SAS is going to cost way more than 13 euros
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
well the other thing also
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
what you actually want is more SATA ports, which you can get with a card like the one i linked
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
then i get 4 ports?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
you get as many ports as the card has on it if you want more, get a card with more or more cards
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
so this one has 2 ?
No description
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
i mean, count the cables coming off of it or read the description
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
i mean i counted 2 and it says there are 4
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
unfortunately you are counting wrong
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
im counting the blue cables going off it
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
there are 4 of them...
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
oh right they're layered btw do you know how to select all layers in fl studio on the piano thing
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
are you sure your motherboard doesn't have any additional SATA ports? find a FL studio discord to ask this you're kind of lucky i'm giving you general PC hardware help in a C# server in the first place
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
i mean yeah true i saw 3 cables from one location that are sata 2 went over to the 2 disks that came with the pc and then then another one going to the part where you put the cd in and then the bigger part the one that came from the charging area there are 2 extra ones but there seem to be no extra ports or cables for the smaller data sata
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
when you say there are extra ones but they're not the "smaller data sata" what does that mean what is the model number of your motherboard
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
i mean this one
No description
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
and i don't know can i check that on the pc?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
that's for power, not data
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
yeah
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
it would probably be faster to just take a picture of the whole motherboard tbh
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
i mean you can barely see it cause there are other components blocking most of the view of it but i can still take a picture if it helps
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
doesn't really matter, i just wanted to confirm if you're out of sata ports you need one of those cards, that's basically your solution
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
how do i know that i even have a thing on the motherboard that i can put this card into
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
by looking at your motherboard you probably have one
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
ok im gonna look before i order it then you think the cables come with it?
Jimmacle
Jimmacle5mo ago
it can go in any PCIe slot that is long enough to fit it, including ones that are longer than the card idk, check the description of the one you buy
Tian
TianOP5mo ago
for the one you linked it doesnt seem to say nvm it does have them cool
