Something feels off about these jeans
I am trying to move away from slimmer fits but something feels weird. This is a pair of Levi’s 511s so not THAT loose. Yet it looks oddly feminine? I can’t put my finger on it. Should I just go back to skinnier fits?

you are very much overthinking a normal pair of jeans
Try going wider (501)
Non-ironically, wearing baggier or straighter leg jeans for a while will just reset your brain to how you view them on yourself
I have tried going 501 and it looks ridiculous. Like I am wearing a tent.
I also do wonder if these pants make me look fat
For reference, this is my current favorite pair. Thanks to Levi’s terrible sizing they are same fit and a waist size LARGER
See that's all very much in your head I feel. 501s are really not that baggy, you might just need to move your jeans overton window
I am also quite short (168cm) and a bit chubby (69-70 kg) and I really don't like how wider fits make me look shorter
I can pretty much guarantee they don't make you look shorter
But if you prefer a slimmer fit that's also ok
they look fine, wide fit just needs taking time getting used to especially if you're used to years of slimmer fits
Same height and weight, never met a pair of jeans that made me feel fatter or shorter. I have met jeans that were more comfortable, flattering, draped better and felt more versatile in a wider variety of outfits and that was a straight cut. ymmv
These read as slim jeans to me. Absolutely agree that your eye will change if you try wider things
For example here are some jeans which I thought were comically wide at the time
:xd:
If you don’t like the fit of your jeans, some parts you might consider- the taper…. Do you not like how tight they are at the hem? Are they cropped too short for your liking? Does the fabric drape in a way you don’t prefer? Does the fit feel tight anywhere?
Here are some jeans from 5 years ago which were on the limit of how wide I was comfortable with (wild to think about)
Here is a recent pair which is the same brand and fabric but in a regular 501 style instead of a slim cut, and like FOUR sizes larger
But now even the new ones are starting to look slim to me
just go cold turkey and get some 550s
ive had good luck just going on ebay and getting some 550s from the 90s
511 is a VERY slim fit by 2024 standards. It may be the skinniest mens jean Levi makes now.
I bought some new 501s a couple years ago and those are way too slim for me now. Vintage 501s are a different fit though.
How is that even possible? What would you call these then
Lean Dean Plain Stone
Slim fit jeans with a tapered leg in a clear-blue, salt, and peppery wash. Made with organic comfort stretch denim
I live in Norway though so maybe things are different on this side of the pond. Looser fits seem to be almost exclusively worn by teens, young adults and women while everyone else mostly sticks to slim
there's a large spectrum between slim and "so loose they're baggy"
and while i do agree there may be some cultural differences at play here i think as others have said this might be a case of getting familiar with a new type of fit (and possibly rise too, if you're used to low rise slim fit jeans)
So this is how a 501 looks on me
nice
these look very normal to me
I think I’m breaking out of the brainwashing
Even black straight fit jeans look kinda ok (though I think I still think they are better suited for slimmer fits)
Gonna take these
Now that I have gotten used to them I love them. I might need to see what tops pair with them but I definitely appreciate how much more masculine they look. Thank you for helping me see the light
