Pocketbase vs Supabase
So I have been looking into the easiest ways to make realtime applications recently and found that Supabase actually has a competitor by the name of Pocketbase. It seems to have most of the features that Supabase has and that most people would need. So I asked, which is better?
After doing some research I found that Pocketbase is FULL open source in that you don't have a cloud based option where you can pay them to host it. This really appealed to my since Supabase can be somewhat pricey as you start working with bigger projects.
Aswell it is way easier to self host since it comes as a binary, instead of the crazy Supabase docker setup.
So I wanted to ask all your opinion, if you have tried Pocketbase what did you think of it and how does it compare to Supabase.

This of course also takes into consideration that Pocketbase is not at 1.0 and marked as not ready for production.
is supabase that pricy at scale? outside of bandwidth and storage, their pricings are mostly fine
you said yourself, pocketbase is not even 1.0, the "safe approach" is to pay supabase and when the prices becomes bad, self host it
which is cheaper: managed supabase or your time + pocketbase/self hosted supabase
Yeah you have a point. I think at the end of the day we just need to use production ready software. I just like to be optimistic about other options.
do you guys have any idea about the usage?
because then its "easy" to calculate supabase pricing and see what makes sense
I'm not sure at the moment since I'm just doing some research, but I got some really good information from the Supabase discord and they explained the whole pricing system really well
