Need advice on how to make my outfits more interesting.

Hey everyone, I only really got into trying to dress good about a year ago. I'm on a relatively tight budget so I've been struggling to buy cool center pieces to work around. I think I got some basic, decent looking outfits going on but I never feel like it's anything that pops out without being too eccentric. I think at this moment the thing that is holding me back the most is the lack of interesting footwear and tops. Adding some fits I've posted on here. The ones I wear often and don't post here usually rely on wearing heavy overshirts with lightweight tops underneath. I suppose I'm looking for some advice on how to spice things up and avoid wearing boring looking outfits. How do I bring in just that little bit extra that makes it stand out in an interesting or clever, stylish looking way?

I’m gonna be real with you chief all of these are good, I’m less crazy about the pant-shoe interaction in the last two pics If you’re looking to branch out accessories (a necklace especially!) could be worth checking out

I’m gonna go extremely this-server-house-style here but if you want to stay in this genre then fatigues and penny loafers may be welcome additions to your wardrobe For summerweight tops linen and camp collars as well

you could swap out the white tees in a couple of them for a graphic or a half unbuttoned ocbd or something but again, nothing wrong with anything here

Yeah this I already know is true. I wanted to get some basics going first and then branch outb to more interesting tops like graphic tee's. But good quality graphic shirts are quite pricy. @kyn I know they don't work too well, mostly because again I don't have that much to choose from. I have black regular 1460's dr martens, lugged boat shoes and the 550's. It sucks because that doesn't allow for a lot of variety

Any of the options mentioned or like new balance 990v5s would work “better” there

Definitely something I should be looking into, is it something that should mostly be worn above the top or will wearing it underneath a top have enough detail to be of added value

I’d say the former if you want it to be seen and contribute to the outfit in most cases

You got basics down. I don’t think you should be worried about if you dress well or not But I totally get that you want more individuality Honestly it’s hard to know what direction to go once you have your basics lined up but I would just recommend browsing large online boutiques like ssense and Mr porter and finding some brand directions you like

Bags are something I think could be interesting, but I never carry anything that needs a bag. So I think I would feel as if it's a joke to have them on me

For example, let’s say you stumble across Hed Mayner or Lemaire and realize what you can use to spice up your wardrobe is adding more unconventional drapes. Then you can slowly build towards that wardrobe. Or let’s say you discover you like brain dead and their ruggedness and graphic tees. Then you can start adding that style into your wardrobe I think just carrying a water bottle and sunglasses entails bringing a bag Totes are easy mode

Yeah been keeping an eye out for interesting totes

My recommendation for bags are local merch totes or COS bags

my wallet doesn't like COS and Arket 😂

Every local shop or your favorite musician/artist/podcaster has a merch store You can get a good bag rn at COS for $40 but I understand if that’s above your budget

I think I should get out of my comfort zone when it comes to graphics in general. Holding me back I think

An easy way to start with graphic tees is buying merch of your favorite things, like totes Bc even if you aren’t exactly used to wearing graphics, at least you are repping your favorite band right?

true I get that, but I also see a lot of fits that are just eclectic, all (imo) for the sake of it standing out I don't want that

yeah accessories are the big thing i’d recommend just off your top post. check out jewelry; inox has nice stainless steel chains that average $50 or less and they cover all the usual bases (necklace, ring, bracelet, cufflinks) in an affordable (sub USD$300) price range

But obviously that take doesn't mean anything because it's all subjective. Like I can look at someone and be like damn that's a unique fit, but also think it's ugly as hell at the same time

I would caution you not to think of people who aren’t dressing “conventionally” as exclusively “dressing to stand out” as that’s needlessly reductive and may be limiting for you

I understand that, I shouldn't have said it like that. I'm just more afraid that I would come over as such

I think you have to get over your fear

Free your mind, other people’s opinions matter less than whether you are happy putting that shit on

But at the same time people either dress to blend in or dress to stand out and either way it’s fine!!!

yeah i had caught your watches in a couple of the pics you’d posted but hadn’t seen the ring chains are nice imo because they’re simple and add contrast to an otherwise solid chest (since you tend to favor solid tops)

I'm gonna disagree with the 'needing enhanced pieces to convey individuality take.' All of these fits are built around extremely common pieces that are styled in such a way that still conveys individuality IN MY OPINION

Yeah as usual you don’t need to spend $$$ or even buy particularly crazy pieces to put together fits that look great

will echo everyone else's sentiments and add that there's no shame in copying or being inspired by someone else's styling in putting together a fit to try something out (i've certainly done it) charli brought up sites like ssense or mr porter (plus endclothing which attempt to style pieces in somewhat interesting ways, plus there's always #waywt and #inspiration or other social media
