Controller issues
I just got the game and was trying to use steam input to play the game with a controller and it’s just not working no matter what I try. It’s enabled and the official template is selected. Nothing happens though.

ivew been using Hazey all dazxzeys Kev layout for my xbox controller, you need "mouse" input to get through the main menus. been only able to play the game on my steam deck cause my ethernet line somehow has packet loss and not my wifi
once youre in the game its all controller, essentially make sure you map the mouse to a joy stick and the left mouse button ot a trigger
I can play using Steam Input and my Dualshock 4 gamepad.
You have to use the keybindings menu in game, did you try that?
Honestly curious about controller play for this game so i would be glad for an update on if you resolved this @Petals
Well I tried the above method of rebinding the movement to the joystick but nothing happens. The controller genuinely does nothing, I load into the training place and press every button my controller and nothing happens. It’s connected to steam still cause brushing against the pad moves my mouse. Therefore it should just work but it doesn’t. I also use a DualShock 4 controller
to be clear you ARE going into the "Keybindings" menu to set up inputs right? here are some customized keybindings with gamepad for example
Dualshock 4 notoriously problematic on PC so if Steam Input fails your next avenue to try should be DS4Windows by Ryochan7
Any luck?
Sadly not home to try yet. But in the next hour or so
Oh yes! I I clicked on the spot to change the binding and moved the joystick and nothing happened.
There is an official layout for the game. Is there a reason you don’t use that one?
I guess I’ll try that since it’s still not working
Im gonna be honest I never got a working setup that was smooth enough for me to stick with it and really iron out the kinks.
I have booted up the game to see what the deal is and I have the same experience as you. The touchpad does "flick stick" and holding the home button lets you use the global layer but nothing else is seen by the game.
its aggravating to test each little part of the clusterfuck of bugs it could be tbh and i dont know how to even replicate the "proper" gamepad inputs as i showed in screenshot. it mightve been my switch pro controller. or maybe you have to fully disable steam input and then reboot the game. i dont know. i dont remember it being this hard before.
i did notice though, if you are in the steam input menu and tab over to "community layouts" the top used one just uses rebind to keyboard keys. rather than sending the gamepad buttons to the game.
this seems like the easiest solution for the game.
for example: try mapping your toggle crouch keyboard-key (default 'C' i think) onto a face button, like Circle [O]. it should "just work" todd howard style, at least it does for me.
i am going to start off the community template and edit from there. sometimes that is easier than trying to start from the ground up.
the "Official Layout" is a stock template that just sends gamepad button inputs from steam to the game, without really remapping anything. and accordingly in game, you have to plan it all out yourself based on your experience/preference with other console fps. it's kinda rough but try to see it as a blank canvas upon which you can design your perfect setup, that's how i cope lol.
