Oh after I waited some time it started but that doesn't seem normal
Yeah facing this exact same issue. I'm on x11 just gave up on wayland because of countless issues. It happens almost always so if any dev is here let me know if i can share some log.
Yes I'm having the exact same issue with wayland. Did it a few days ago, I deleted some configuration files and it worked, but now it's borked again, god knows why.
These are the log I've managed to find so far :
full log
Seems that kwin fails to get a screen width and height and then just blacks out
why it was working before and not anymore I have no idea
are you using an HDR monitor?
i dont think so, how do i check
It might be an option in your monitors on display menu, I was having issues with logging in on wayland after upgrading to 3.5.0 where I was met with a black screen but still heard the login chime like you. Disabling HDR on my monitor allowed me to get back in on Wayland. it seems like HDR is busted with the upgrade, it was working fine before 3.5.0 for me
nope deffenitly not
gotcha, well im not sure then
Got a new drive so did a fresh install of bazzite kde nvidia today and after a couple of reboots i'm facing this issue again.
After login it shows a black screen and after around 30-40 seconds it shows the desktop. Then after couple of minutes what ever i'm doing it kicks me back to the login screen. Entering the password again goes to in infinite black screen.
My monitor does support HDR but i have disabled it from the display settings. And no VRR.
Yes I have an HDR monitor. But how can you disable HDR in KDE ? My monitor does not have a toggle for it.
Last time I just deleted a bunch of configs in .config/ but I don't want to do random again
I've tried to set "highDynamicRange": false, in .config/kwinoutputconfig.json but it changes nothing
I wish I had better knowledge on it, my monitor has a toggle so that's been my workaround until HDR gets fixed which I don't believe is a huge priority. I should really submit a github issue to get the maintainers eyes on this issue
Seems like version 40.20240706.0 fixed it for me.
Sorry false alarm. Back to black screen 😣
I have the exact same problem. I could only identify that this is happening with a specific screen. I may have activated HDR but cannot get the option anymore. anytime I plug the screen wayland freeze
I did the same and restarted but it was back to true
Ok I could fix it by moving
.config/kwinrc
and .config/kwinoutputconfig.json
to .config/kwinrc.bak
and .config/kwinoutputconfig.json.bak
and restarting sddm
