Windows vs. Bazzite Battery Life

Hello! I'm deciding between getting a 90hz Steam Deck OLED and a Lenovo Legion Go. I'm looking to run everything, from Celeste to Cyberpunk. I'd like the Legion Go's additional framerate for heavy AAA games, but I'm not willing to compromise the Deck's 12 hour max battery life for it, if I play a game that is less GPU intensive. Can Bazzite increase the Legion Go's battery life dramatically from its stock Windows installation, or is it fully hardware dependent? If I could squeeze out an extra 1-3 hours from the Legion Go, that would be ideal for my mixed case.
Solution:
Even capped at 4TDP I’m not sure I could get 5 hours. Maybe at minimum brightness and minimum resolution. But then what’s the point.

In my experience, no.

What is your experience? Did you try configuring the Legion Go for power saving? Were you also messing with settings like screen resolution/brightness on the Legion Go to no avail? Was TPM helpful?

You can have one or the other; great AAA performance or great battery. Currently there’s no way to have both. I consistently only get 2 hours on battery from 80% with the Legion Go. 3 hours if I’m streaming. I never cap my TDP and usually let it max at 40 though.

If you really test the device's limiting, have you ever gotten 5-6 hours with games that have cheaper graphical demands? It's hard to find an accurate review for the Legion Go that tests the battery to the limit

Ah okay, so I guess it really does come down to that better screen's power draw in the end Thanks for the info!

I'll have to try to find more head to head benchmarks with the Steam Deck playing certain games. The portability does matter to me, but not to a very major extent

「Steam Deck OLED Battery Test - INSANE Results」
The Steam Deck OLED is our new challenger today. What does it bring to the table in terms of battery life? There are four devices featured today. Steam Deck LCD 800p @ 60hz Steam Deck OLED 800p @ 60/90hz* ROG Ally 720p @ 60hz Legion Go 800p @ 60hz Of course our Steam Deck OLED will be running at 90hz if the game supports it. If it doesn't su...

It seems like the Legion Go's battery is stuck at ~4-5 hours, even with games with simpler rendering pipelines, in contrast with the Deck which can run them for double the time. Both games run AAA with a smaller difference in battery life

Not sure how different these results would be in Bazzite though, since presumably these systems are all running their stock OS. Probably not too different

Due to the legion go's advanced CPU and RAM it uses around 3W more when doing nothing

Ah, would you recommend undervolting the machine to mitigate that?

Doesn't support undervolting I tried If you plan on using your device mostly plugged in legion go is the way to go Otherwise OLED or maybe ally x

Thanks, that makes sense. I'm sure it'll be plugged in most of the time either way, so I'll have to look into the LLG Looks like it works really well with an eGPU too

I concur I’m almost always plugged in so I max that puppy out. Been considering an all in one eGPU because it’s basically a charger with extra graphics power.
