Brand Spotlight: Nanamica - Topic of the day 7/2/24

"Taking “UTILITY” and “SPORTS” as key words, nanamica mixes fashion and functionality at a high level to offer “standard wear for the current age” with neutral design that transcends the boundaries of genre, age, or gender. Keeping distance from passing trends, we make high quality items that can remain a part of people’s lives for a long time. The brand name means “house of the seven seas,” and the relaxing image of the ocean is something that we always cherish."

I want to get more from them, but their price can be a little steep. The only thing I own is their cardigan from last season that's about 50% paper/washi-poly and love it, it's been a summer staple because of how breathable it is

Have a significant amount of nanamica in my wardrobe but in the past...five or so years they've really hit the "variations on a theme" that makes buying more kind of pointless. Blessing and a curse. Dated as it is (as am I) I do miss the insane and pointless fabrications they used to do, like Windstopper suits. Feel like some of that DNA got spread out to goldwin.

their nyc store is ok but the japanese stores' instagrams are incredible the amount of great photography they post daily obviously nanamica is one of my favorite brands (along with TNFPL), took me a while to really get into the brand because i thought it was boring for the longest time their US prices are absurd for what you're getting, feel like they should be at least 25% lower, but the clothes are good. where they excel is little details like using interesting fabrics, hidden pockets, cool buttons, etc they're a great midpoint between minimalist brands like comoli, still by hand, etc. and gorp americana like daiwa pier39

My favorite pieces are the printed alphadry stuff. Great mix of maximalist and minimalist, trompe l'oeil, technically capable, playful. The Abraham Moon stuff from aw19 was the best (and so stupid)

I generally dig their lookbooks and all the inspo from the stores a lot. I have managed to get two jackets (one is technically TNFPL) for decent prices second-hand and I really like them but I agree that the retail prices are way too high (might not be the case in japan). If they were 25 - 30% lower I think I would own a lot more from them

the cuts look great, like City Boy and Gorp had a wide, handsome baby

People underestimate the quality of their rainwear. If you live in a city where it rains a lot, old-fashioned aside, it's really good stuff.

65/35 Bayhead cloth >>> The gore tex stuff is gonna be good too ofc but the 65/35 is one of the best 60/40-like fabrics out there imo, really nice feeling
