Has anyone tried asking The Work Number to delete their data under their state's Data Privacy and Security Acts? I don't see a way of contacting The Work Number by email / secure msg, so wasn't sure if there was a protocol in place to request this. I know some folks were discussing deleting their data earlier this year.

@DataGeek(2J) you’re probably the perfect person to answer this

I tried that under California’s law. They didn’t respond. I then spoke to an attorney who said that they were probably perfectly free to tell me to go pound sand because the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (which gives you the right to freeze) trumps any state law.

Damn that sucks, thanks for being the data point

I think that’s kind of dubious but I don’t want to plunk down $50K to sue them over it since TWN is not really credit. California is in the process of standing up a new consumer data privacy agency. In another year or two they may be able to go after Equifax. My only fear is that if they succeed then Equifax will say to residents of the other 49 states that they don’t have to allow freezes any more if FCRA doesn’t apply.

But that would theoretically be moot if you’re allowed to delete the data right

Moot for me. Everyone outside of California would be screwed.
