Custom font makes text “sink down” a bit

I tried searching online but I’m not familiar enough with css to know the vocabulary I need. I’m applying a custom font to my webpage, but for some reason it makes the text… sink? I’m not sure what causes this issue. Here’s a before and after with the default sans serif and the new font - pay attention to the paragraph text.
