What's the cut of different good vintage t shirts? I've seen dead stock vintage velva sheen t shirts out there for example.

why not just go mtm at this point
If your question is which modern t shirts are closest to a mid century cut, then Warehouse 4601 (and the pocketless version) are close. They’ve got a boxy fit, cropped length, and loopwheeled fabric and sell for $35-50 each
