Current flows like this because the potential between x and top 2ohm, and y and bottom 2ohm resistor are same, why are the potentials same?

If potential of wire on the right side of battery is 0volts and left side is 10volts, We can write 10-y = x-2 (equal potential difference) But why

@Aguilar the potential are not same but the potential difference is same across the resistor
