Regular packages for Linux and installation without login
It's almost impossible to log in and install mojo in China and Slavic countries without perfectly configurated proxy. It's OK if you would need to login to install and use a proprietary stuff but why we need log in to use Open Source project? Mojo would be much more popular if it was distributed like a normal package without login

I think right now the reason they want a login is because that gives them a number of mojo users to take back to investors and to bring to potential partners in the AI space. “We have 100k people using the language, half of whom have used a beta release in the last month” is far better than “We have a lot of github stars”.
Indeed, that's a big downside of modular commercial strategy since it's out. I guess their need to establish their own market before being fully open source. If it wasn't the case, the open-source community would have overtaken the source code and spread it. And they would have coped with a big lack of financial support. I guess time will tell us. I just hope that the root of the source is almost stronger than what they're saying. I've been excited since day one but we'll need to be patient for a moment. 3-5 years should make the deal I think
Mojo is already Open Source project. I'm talking not about AI part (Max which isn't open source) but about mojo interpreter itself. Mojo would be MUCH more popular if it was possible to use basic mojo installed from repos instead of python. Now mojo is used only in US and some Europe countries in a very narrow area and will most likely be forgotten in a year when the ai hype finally passes
Mojo compiler isn't no ? Last time I check it was not available. But globally I'm basically agree with you. Even, for those of my kind, that work in AI fields, for technical parts is difficult to access and understand and the hype of AI will discredit the few things we're really able to do... As always, greed win and integrity pay the price

Mojo will go OSS, but I imagine they want to launch with a competitive advantage. They have also said they don’t want to deal with 10k PL enthusiasts trying to help with the compiler right now, which is understandable.
