Bazzite will not install on ROG ally no matter what I do
Hello Devs hopefully yall can help me with this issue. I have been trying to install Bazzite onto my ROG ally and basically I can get it to the point where i am ready to install and I press continue and it gets to the creating EFI portion and fails everytime. I also attempted to go into the custom partition menu and have it auto load but then it just hangs on the accept page so I can never get further that way.

I have ran the Gnome and KDE installer with the same issue as well
Could you take a picture of the error message that you are getting? Assuming that you are dual-booting with Windows?
I am not duel booting my windows partition is gone
I could probably take a picture with my phone but I doubt it will look great I know I can replicate the issue though but I won't be able to share the complete log file
Just the full error message that the installer is giving you would be useful for now.
Also when you try and install are you clearing the old efi partition? If there was a failed install the installer freaks out when there is an existing fedora folder in the efi partition and gives an annoying "Code 1" error
I left it in the automatic choice so I can't delete an old partition however I set it to delete all when I did it so that should be clearing it unless thats a bug
the error is "an unexpected error has occured" and the bottom log entry says "warning org.fedoraproject.anaconda.modules.storage:blivet.errors.FSError: mount failed: Filesystem type vfat not configured in kernel"
Sorry meant to reply on the last one but above is the error
That's a new one for me. Could you do a checksum on the Bazzite iso you downloaded. You can do it with 7zip on Windows and compare the 256 hash with the one next to the download button. I suspect that you might have a corrupt iso file
stand by
I'm going to download the iso file and just make sure the the installer is working for me to cancel out an issue in the installer itself
You using the bazzite-deck.iso right?
No im using the Bazzite-ally.iso
I also tried the gnome version of the ally one with the same issue
Ah yes of cause. let me get that one
Sorry im not really sure how to check the hash in 7zip I downloaded it and im inthe 7zip gui or is this a command prompt thing
Just right click on the iso. Go with the SHA256, should be in the 7zip right click menu. You might need to select options at the bottom if you in Windows 11
Thank you
Verified identical
I just get straight out "network error" when I try and download the iso file. Cloudflare might be having some trouble
thats interesting
Looks like they just uploaded a new image while I was trying to download
The changelog hasnt changed for me
Old image was 8,59GB and new image is 9,23GB
both of my immages were 7.7gb
wait nevermind
wait nevermind the nevermind yeah 7.67gb
8.59 for the KDEversion
Going to take a while.
oh jeez
Okay well I appreciate you trying
I need to do this anyway. I got my Rog Ally this week too 🙂
For now im gonna reload windows so at least I have a working console for the moment
Yeah. Going to take a while, my download jumps between 7kb and 7MB lol
Jeez
Downloaded the KDE image checked the hash and all good. Installed on a VM is working. Have you tried installing with usb writer tool like Ventoy or tried with a different USB device?
I’ve tried on 2 usbs and I used balena etcher I could download ventoy and try it
Okay so I redownloaded the file and used ventoy this time and I had the exact same error
Going to try ventoy shortly, will see if i get the same error
Bazzite installed for me. Did you disable secure boot and fast boot in the BIOS?
Also I selected GPT partition style in ventoy. No idea if it's needed or not
Fast boot and secure boot were both disabled but I had MBR selected
I had to use the asus cloud recovery to clean wipe windows because it had a Bitlocker on it
unfortunatly I cant get cloud recovery to work where I am right now
There should be an option in straight up windows too. Although if you're this far windows is probably wiped and won't boot. You might be able to get in if you have a usb with windows on it.
I reinstalled windows because apparently im not gonna get bazzite working. However I had to do a manual windows 11 ISO method because im on hotel wifi and cloud reonvery wouldnt work because of hotel wifi 2 factor auth to connect. I am in the process of regetting all the asus programs and drivers to make this thing functional again
Well if you got windows back on it you should be able to get into regular windows recovery to unlock the bitlocker
Or if you have a different clean nvme that Microsoft hasn't got their peepers on then you can put it straight on that
when you had bitlocker were you even able to get into the installer for bazzite at all I thought it wouldnt let you also I had wiped all partitions off of the drive as well so bitlocker should be gone I thought. am I wrong on this
I kept getting errors until I unlocked the bitlocker. Apparently deleting the partitions doesn't unlock it. It's locked somewhere you can't touch without putting in the key
Okay I really dont wanna redo windows again but ill give it a shot
On second thought im gonna wait until I have access to better wifi just to make this whole process easier. Thank you for all the help @Chiodoss @wolfyreload I really appreciate you both 🙂
No worries I went through the recovery, unlocked the bitlocker (which you'll have to log into your windows account on your phone or something to find the key), and the second it rebooted I booted from the usb that had bazzite and it worked so hope this helps
