I need basic advice for how to choose outfits/colors.

Male, 21, I currently have a Adam Sandler outfit choices, I usually wear some kind of anime graphic tee and some kind of And1 gym shorts or black jeans. I am trying to do a full wardrobe overhaul without breaking the bank as this will be really expensive to do an entire wardrobe of $50+ clothing per item. I am also really overcritical of shopping as everything looks too formal in my eyes as far as pants so how do I choose something that will look good? Or can someone give me some foolproof advice I can use so I can make good decisions on things to choose and colors to pair so I don't look stupid? Thanks. I like more of the "old money" style, or just an unbuttoned button-down shirt, t-shirt, and pants.

Look at #fashion-guides , especially the basic bastard If you shop second hand you can do very well for less than $50/item If you are used to wearing tees and gym shorts, changing that is going to feel weird and formal for awhile. You just have to get used to it.

You can try starting with something in between your current style and something hard and sophisticated. Try replacing your graphic tee with something blank and with good material and siluette. Since idk your body type, I'd suggest what I like. Try boxed fit for tees(they are kinda like oversize, but cropped to your waist line), try Uniqlo or Zara (on the cheaper side and not the worst quality, esp Uniqlo) Sport shorts can be replaced with linen shorts or pants. Black jeans can be replaced with classic fit jeans(not too wide and not the skinny/slim ones), chinos (navy blue, olive, khaki, beige. Not black) After you get used to that, you can start experimenting. Try looking for it on TikTok or YT, after some time you'll notice that you understand your taste a bit better. Don't use ”old money" term, some people here don't like it and there's a discussion somewhere

the best thing you can do is to go slow, and resist the urge to completely replace all your clothes. keep trying on things, check #waywt for inspiration, ask questions and at some point if you're wondering "okay i can do this what now" read this https://malefashionadvice.substack.com/p/on-the-development-of-personal-style
