Steam won't open

Getting errors when trying to run steam:
$ steam

I would guess that steam didn't install its own files properly which would explain the "libgobject-2.0.so.0: file too short error." I would rename the /var/home/user/.local/share/Steam directory and launch steam again and see if it works then
