Would the Threadripper Pro 5975wx be too overkill for ~100 moderate MC Servers?
I want to have a machine to run around 100->200 MC servers on (not concurrently, there’s not enough threads for that), pairing that machine with 1tb of RAM, should it last? is it too overkill? I have an old build I’d be repurposing for this so im not investing anything into the CPU / hardware.
Would the CPU be sufficient for MC with its 3.6-4.5Ghz?

ghz means literally nothing by itself
otherwise looks fine
I mean, if you already have the hardware and don't need it for anything else; go for it
core count isn't massive for the amount of ram, but if people aren't complaining, is there really an issue?
core count isn’t massive for the amount of ramyeah i was thinking the same, but like you said, if people aren’t complaining i guess its fine
only thing that would really be better would be getting multiple like 7900/7950 based machines with 192gb of ram in each, but that'd be 5 servers to reach 1tb instead of one server
exactly
that’s probably what i’m going to do after i max out this threadripper
but i figured why spend 2k on a 7950x w/ 192gb when i have a threadripper lying around
I'm unsure about the threadripper, but do remember that the all core turbo is typically slower on high core count CPUs
so even just 50% cpu usage across all cores can make servers start to run slower in certain cases
i guess i can trial and error it, if it doesn’t work out i’ll just go with 7900s
I mean, I have no clue what your client growth looks like, so unsure if you'll end up running into cpu issues on it anyways
fair tbh
