Buying women's pants?

I'm rather short with a huge ass and thick thighs, so it's been difficult to find men's pants that fit off the rack. I've been thinking about getting women's pants as an alternative to getting men's pants altered. Has anyone here tried this? Can people tell if you're wearing women's pants? Any recommendations? (ETA please ping if you reply)

You can tailor your pants, it's cheap @shroom

@shroom Plenty of people here have bought women’s pants. Clothes don’t really have a gender. That said, the problems you’re most likely to find are - - lack of/small pockets - cuts that sometimes accentuate waist/hips Depending on the type of pants you’re looking for and budget, “regular,” “straight” or “relaxed” fit pants may be more accommodating of your proportions.

I'm going to add that tailoring pants to allow for thighs larger than they have been made to accommodate is not going to be cheap. In some cases not even possible

Also won't be cheap

What price do you have in mind while saying not cheap? I'm only aware of prices in my region which can differ from yours a lot probably

Typically a hem (a cheap tailoring job) is going to cost between £10-15 ($15-20). Having a tailor completely reconstruct the legs of a pair of pants is going to be considerably more time and cost.

@shroom there's less difficulty in wearing women's (or any gender) pants than you would think aside from the specific construction things @kyn mentioned. only other thing to watch for is the belt loops might be a different width/spacing/nonexistent

both of these are women's pants, and no one in life has given me shit about wearing them

Yeah I was thinking about costs in the range of $20-30, I guess it also depends on the pants value cause if this is only 10% of the pants price then its completely different than if it would be 50% of it

Thanks for the info. Guess I won't really know how the cut might affect how things look until I try stuff on lol Yeah I usually get relaxed or even loose fit but it's nice to have more fitting pants too That is very true yeah I haven't ever tried getting any pants alterations other than simple hemming, I don't really buy pants expensive enough to justify the tailoring cost Yo these look so good on you lol

Admittedly fitted pants aren’t really my thing but all of these are marketed as “women’s” bottoms. First pair is ivan grundahl, shorts are Uniqlo, green linen is Lafayette 148, cream are cos, lime green cords are GRIEVE which I think is explicitly unisex, last pair is cos again. All purchased secondhand except for the GRIEVE and maybe the shorts.

The pockets on all of these except the shorts are somewhere between nonexistent and laughably small but I don’t find the fit to be bad / unflatteringly gendered in a way that doesn’t work for me

Women's pants with pleats have more room in the top block FYI Can help with sizing issues

The more straight sized you are, the easier it is to fit into clothes made for the opposite gender IMO.

Have you tried some of the bigger, wider cuts, like J. Crew giant fit chinos? I think Uniqlo has some now as well. Second hand, what about PRL Andrews or Polo Jeans Co
