CPU clock speed too low
I've noticed poor performance in some games, a lot of stutter. I'm using an i5 8400, 6750xt.
The performance overlay shows CPU clocks at around 1000 mhz and games struggle to hit 60. It should be at 3800 mhz under load.
In desktop mode, I changed the cpu governor to performance using 'sudo cpupower frequency-set -g performance' and it clearly works. Games are now smooth as.
Unfortunately though, it seems to reset on boot, and doesn't affect gamemode. So it's back to slow cpu clocks.
I tried setting the power settings in KDE but they don't seem to have helped.
So, is there a way to permanently force the performance governor to stay on, that will also affect game mode?
Thanks in advance.

So, i've realised that the KDE power settings are working, but performance mode just locks it to 3.8 ghz. Balanced mode is variable but too low a range to play games well. Does anyone know how to permanently set a higher range of clock speed in balanced mode?
