(gnome) i just cannot get keyrings to work..

so, my issue is mostly with one specific application, which is protonvpn. up until yesterday i grudgingly dealt with the fact that it demanded the login password each time i started up my computer, but then i had enough and wrote a support ticket to proton. those guys eventually suggested that my keyring is password protected, which as far as i understood it wasnt. i then tinkered around a bit with its settings, manually adding and removing any password. this then caused all saved data in the keyring "default" to disappear. now it is even worse, the vpn app tries to "create" the default keyring on boot, apparently unsuccessful because any stored data is lost on next boot, and i am at my wits end. all i want is for the fricken vpn app to start automatically and properly without me having to type a password each time... could someone please help me out here?

sadly none so far. am still annoyedly dealing with the keyring on each boot been actually thinking of trying kde instead of gnome for this stupid ass reason, but supposedly that is even more tinkering than under gnome

It is It's a requirement for many applications, you couldn't use brave or the wifi manager in KDE without it
