Poor perfomance for some reason
I've just installed bazzite on a brand new SSD, but the overyall performance on games is really bad. I am new on linux, so dont know much or how to solve it either.
Elden Ring runs fine on windows (i have two ssd's, the brand new one with linux and an really old one with windows) but on bazzite the game just cries trying to achieve 40 fps, Helldivers 2 runs 38-57 fps and on windows it runs on 48-60 fps (it has an more constant performance achieving 60 fps on the majority of times)
Really don't know what the problem is or how to solve but just dont makes sense for me, even because the CPU is achieving 70°C (same games on windows rarely achieves 65°C) even if its not using all the CPU and GPU.
PC settings:
Ryzen 5 3600
RX 6600
16GB RAM
650W power supply
2 SSD's:
- Western Digital 480GB SATA (old with windows)
- ADATA legend 710 with 510 GB NVME PCIe 3.0 1x4 (just bought today and it has bazzite OS on it)

what resolution are you trying to run these games at? the RX 6600 is not really super strong, i manage to run helldivers 2 fine on my RX 6600XT which is a bit similar
1920x1080
I dont have an super monitor or somethint like this (its an TV to be honest lol)
im asking mainly since sometimes people leave out that they recently got a new monitor that is higher resolution because they dont think over it 😛
:clueless:
I run Helldivers 2 with the majority of the settings set on medium (some things are in high but nothing that would destroy completely the performance)
i havent really touched helldivers since the sony debacle let me go in and check my settings since i do remember i adjust a lot of things
also what launch options have you set for helldivers?
i know some cards need
--use-d3d11
while others dont
as using that launch option will degrade performanse in mission results and loadingNone (i've putted mangohud command thing on the lauch options right now since i was using global setting from GOverlay and i've disabled it just for testing)
And using proton experimental
I will try it
dont use the global setting for goverlay, its known to break things
I will do other tests again
oh great, helldivers has an update, i will let it download overnight
i will go ingame and check what i run on it tomorrow if thats fine
But elden ring really has an poor perfomance comparing windows or nobara linux
dont own elden ring so cant speak for that game
So i am suspecting that is an general performance problem
Thanks mate
:•)
update finished faster than i thought
50-78 fps for me mostly over 60
foggy/rainy maps will change that
i've tested elden Ring with GOverlay global settings deactivated and runned smoothly
now i will see HD2
mate
this is the command that i put on the lauch options?
yes
i will try now
Like this?
yep
just keep in mind fps will be very bad when you get to mission results and loading screens
ideally you shouldnt use it
hmm
an even more poor fps
lmao
i did say ideally you wouldnt use it 😛
was worth a try
opened Elden Ring again and the game runs bad again
the problem its really inconsistent it seems
only thing i can think of then its either thermal or power related then
cpu dont pass 75°C
GPU barely reaches 65°C
its the only thing i can think of
i can think in nothing lmao
it really dont makes sense for me
can try
see if those 2 match in output
put this on terminal?
yes
oh wait sec
i wrote the wrong command xD
xD
there updated it
cat $(find /sys/class/hwmon// -name "power1_cap")
cat $(find /sys/class/hwmon// -name "power1_cap_default")
100000000
100000000
these are the results
yeah so it is not tdp
:thonk:
maybe its the resolution?
no idea
you can use gamescope to upscale from a lower resolution and see if it helps
no idea how to do this
gamescope -w 1280 -h 720 -W 1920 -H 1080 -e -f -- mangohud %command%
i left %command% in there so you know where to put itI've Just copied and paste lmao
there figured you wanted mangohud too
Its like an FSR?
This gamescope thing
it is FSR1
no results
:moyaiguy:
remove
MANGOHUD=1
use the mangohud
command infront of %command% instead
since its running in gamescopelike this?
yes
click ok
its because of mangohud
it will show up 2 times
no results and as i play on keyboard+mouse everything was bugged
Where are the games installed?
this is what steam tells me
this just confirms its not because of resolution
another check on the checklist
eventually we will find the problem
i hope
hopefully, i am not really sure where else the issue can be. i know there can be some performance overhead when running through proton for some games
/var/home/myusername/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/
opened with dolphin
and gived me this
that would be by default on the drive that bazzite is on
Rules out some things
noice
i've tried linux another times in my life
with nobara mainly to be honest
and i had the same exact problem
but it was resolved by magic to be honest
nobara and bazzite shares a lot of code
maybe it resolves by magic again XD
i hope since i am out of ideas...
On nobara i resolved by just breaking feral gamemode
we dont use feral gamemode
Really dony what i was doing lmao
we use system76-scheduler
Indeed, bazzite uses the system76 thing
Yes, indeed
yep, really dont know
i have a gigabyte DS3H V2 MOBO
this affects in something?
oh wait hmm
check in your bios/uefi if rebar and above 4g decoding is enabled
rebar = resizable bar
ReBar is enabled i think
might also be named crypto mining support on some cursed boards according to kyle
worth a double check
i will send some photos with my cellphone on the bios, can you please guide me a little?
idk where to find it
i got no board with rebar support 🙃
most likely in advanced somewhere or its a easy click on the frontpage of the bios
The two are enable
ok
then i really do not know
Disabled the ReBar
Maybe it helps
in all cases it should make performance worse if you disable
"Problem solved"
but i think not
i have two theory's
first
HD2 anticheat messes with all my PC
second
The performance became poor at the pass of the time
uh
this was with rebar off?
or did you do something else?
Solution
Rebar off
Just disable it
try turn it back on and see if it runs shit again
just to verify
apparently it was ReBar
but i will leave the PC running on
just to verify
ah mate, can you help me with two other things?
but i think its more easier ones
@Kyle Gospo you see this? rebar off made game go brr instead of the other way around for someone 🤔
can try, but no promises
That's a skinwalker do not let them over for tech support no matter what they tell you
you heard kyle... sorry cant help you :clueless: (just joking)
:clueless:
I had to leave home for a moment, but, its an question for cursor another thing that i cant remember right now
cursor?
Yep mouse cursor, on desktop is one cursor but when i change windows to like, librewolf, that is an flatpak, the cursor changes to an standard one
gnome desktop?
i dont have that on kde
And mine is kde
:happy_green_trees:
no idea i havent done anything special
must be maybe something to do with flatpaks using gnome runtimes or something, that would be my guess
and that themeing doesnt have the breeze cursors
that would be my guess
im not one to care about the consistency between apps as long as i can have darkmode
Giga chad indeed
The other problem i cant remember by now
oh the other thing, i've remembered, is there a way to lock the FPS on general? Like what rivatunner do on windows
think mangohud can do it, never used it
or was it gamescope that could do it 🤔
i will see what i can do
anyways, thanks for all the help mate
i will mark this as solved, if anything happens i open another help request here (to be honest i will open another one for another more specific problem to be honest lmao)
