Medium is not the same between brands. If you like the way this shirt fits then take measurements of it and use those as reference to size charts
Sizes often aren't standardized. If you're starting to try and dress better... just try lots of clothes and different sizes on.
And zone in what size and fit you like. Some brands might be a medium but fit differently to a medium on a different brand.
A basic t-shirt that fits well will have the shoulder seam at your shoulder bone, the sleeves are mid-bicep, and the length is half-way between your waist and your crotch.
basic tshirt that fits well should feel comfy and nice, you don't need to impose rules like that, especially when clothes are made to fit "average" measurements lmfao it's gonna be stupid difficult to find a tee that fits that criteria.
@carrion what does fit even mean then? sometimes standards are helpful for people just starting out or asking 'does this fit?'
Rules like "the seam should be at your shoulder bone" are relevant for tailoring only, really
And even then only in traditional settings
Drop shoulders are in right now. Baby tees are in right now. Neither adhere to those rules.
@kyn neither of those are basic t-shirts. they are drop shoulder or baby t. a 3/4 t isn't going to sit mid-bicep either
"Does this fit" is a different question. A tee isn't something that needs to be minmaxxed and rules like this are so 2010s mfa-brained it's wild
It also depends on proportions. A shirt at the length you described might not look as good with high waisted pants.
(Which are on trend rn!)
Anyway the crux of this issue isn’t even t shirt sizing rules it’s that a “medium” doesn’t mean anything
Wear clothes that you like the fit of and seek feedback if you’re unsure
apparently neither does fit so youre out of luck OP
out of curiosity @Dabangg did you try on small or large? if so did you notice anything different in the fit physically (the small felt tight, the large felt overly heavy or loose)?
this looks like it fits, only issue is it might be a little long if you're wearing it untucked (eta this could easily be just how the picture was taken)
whether 'medium' is your shirt size in this instance depends on how the other sizes fit
giving mean girls
Here's some basic t shirt outfits from the last month in this server, none of these are particularly over the top drop-shoulder or anything, but the rules about exactly where the shoulder seams should sit are pretty meaningless nowadays (as carrion said, that sort of "fit advice" is pretty outdated from early 2010's)
If it looks good, it fits well
to speak to this point further, the bottom left is me and that shirt is tagged as an XL (usually wear M).
these t-shirts all have a different construction, so yeah, you'd expect something different if there's no vertical seam connecting the body and the sleave
The seam is there, it's just not vertical. These aren't different types of t-shirt they're just bigger in the shoulder
that's what makes different types of t-shirts? the cut of the fabric and how the t-shirt is sewn? i think fit 3 is an oversized standard t. fits 1, 2 and 4 look like drop shoulder
They're not specifically drop shoulder or anything though, they're just pretty standard normal regular t-shirts. Anyway the point for OP is: you don't need to be too prescriptive for how a casual top like this should fit
If it looks good and feels comfy, it fits well.
The polo in the OP picture looks good. A size up might look great too, hard to guess without seeing it on
Impossible to say, even
small shirt seems small for me since I am so tall, I mostly have Extra large and that just seems to be oversized in general, large seems too close to Extra large, something between large and medium or just medium seems to be good ... thanks for all the posts .... what pants size seems good? my pants are 32 x 33 ish and that also looks too big ... so really need to get both ... smaller shirts and smaller pants
Do you have extra room in the waist? These pants don't look too big to me ill be real with you.
I feel like the length of the pants is too long, I can roll them up but that doesn't look good since I wear no show socks ... the width seems okay
1. You can always get pant length hemmed (shortened)
2. A lot of pants sizing is inconsistent as well so you’re best served learning the measurements of pants you own and like and going off those, a 32” waist SIZE does not actually mean a 32” waist measurement many places
Levi’s 32 does not equal Uniqlo 32 does not equal Zara 32 etc
Extra Large shirt looks too big on me, my whole closet is full of extra large, no weight gain or loss
Respectfully, I think you're in your head about this a bit. XL doesn't look too big to my eye here.
But, again, a specific size from one brand will not be a 1:1 match across all brands.
Eh this specific shirt might be a little big or just not very flattering
But, again, this
As a fellow tall/slim guy. Finding well fitting shirts is a lot of trial and error, and knowing your measurements
Im 6'3, 165 and generally take a large in tshirts but some brands Ill be M or XL (or XXL in some cases, thanks Japan)
I'm also nearly an identical size and mostly bounce between M and L depending on brand and fit preference with the exception of needing XL or XXL in most Japanese stuff. Like others have said, a medium at X brand does not necessarily equal a at Y brand.. This is especially true for pants where I can fit into tagged sizes 29 - 33 depending on brand. In the beginning it's a lot of trial and error until you get a feel for your measurements and the landscape at large
Body and garment proportions make a big difference too/ For me, sleeve length and shoulder width often decide what size that I need. Sometimes an M fits well enough in my chest but is too constricting in the shoulders or short in the sleeves. Same thing for pantsm except with rise and thighs being the limiting factor
based on how jacob elordi dresses? naur get bigger even
This would be my other suggestion too. While it may seem counterintuitive at first to OP, slightly looser and more relaxed clothes tend to look really nice on taller, slimmer people.
also fits the shoulders better, i may. be skinny at the body but if the sleeves and shoulders are the whole shirt looks off
also you can take the torso bits in for bigger sizes opposed to smaller ones
