GPD Win Mini + GPD G1
Hello, I love bazzite and can’t get enough. I just got a GPD G1 and it doesn’t seem to work with game-mode.
I was reading the documentation and it seems all of the amd drivers needed are built right in.
What am I doing wrong and is there anything I can try from a software perspective? It runs desktop mode just fine but when I try steam big picture mode everything is extremely laggy. And in game-mode I get nothing. Additionally when I’m in desktop mode and try returning to game mode it throws me back to desktop mode. The G1 is an AMD card so I thought it would work out if the box.
Hoping for some help. Bazzite devs are doing miracle work!

this is the egpu?
you might have to do an
export-gpu
and select it and then follow https://universal-blue.discourse.group/docs?topic=37#how-do-i-specify-the-correct-monitor-for-gaming-mode-to-use-htpc-only-7 to make gamemode session output to the right monitor when its connected
then the egpu is disconnected and the monitor is disconnected it will connect back to the default screen.
for the slow big picture mode, that is an issue when you have 2 gpus from the looks of it and we have to disable hardware acceleration in steam otherwise you will have corrupted output from steam or something like that (kyle explained this better in a different message somewhere)
it is waiting for upstream fixes and not much else we can do sadly.
should not affect gamemode session though if you follow what i said above.Universal Blue
Steam Gaming Mode Overview (Handheld/HTPC)
Steam Deck images have it disabled due to causing issues with MangoHud. It will be added back when these issues are resolved. You will have to rebase to the Unstable branch. More information can be found here.
Unfortunately I tried both things and still no luck. I got a message after selecting an option that’s shown in the screenshot, I tried rebooting but it didn’t help. But I appreciate the help!
I had something similar when I first plugged my AMD egpu. To fix I ran export-gpu in a tty while being in game mode. To do that start using game mode (you will have all screen black), press Ctrl+alt+F2. Then login, run export-gpu and reboot. I don't know how that differs from running it in desktop mode but it worked for me.
I haven’t gotten to try that yet, it actually keeps not showing up as a GPU. How do you use yours? Do you turn yours on at the same time or is the GPU on first?
Im connected through thunderbolt as I hear oculink doesn’t work on bazzite but I’ve got the cable so I’ll try whatever
first i heard of oculink not working on bazzite since that is just pcie
i know hotplug does not work reliably at all
0 devs with egpus too
I use oculink without any issues, but not with a G1. Oculink is just pcie from the point of view of the CPU. There is no reason for it to not work. You should start the egpu first, and then boot the main device
Ah I misunderstood something I read then
I’ve tried all of those things, I still am not successful in using the eGPU in game mode. It might be a lost cause for me for now since none of the devs have egpus. Anyway thanks for trying to help
