dualshock 4/ dualsense connection issue via bluetooth and steam download slow issue
hey guys, got a few questions
1) my dualsense / dualshock 4 connection to my pc via a usb bluetooth dongle has not been very reliable, the connection would sometimes cut off or continues input from controller despite not doing anything. Could this be because the OS is putting my bluetooth usb to sleep?
2) steam download is very slow compared to windows, i am dual booting windows and bazzite on seperate drives, so both OS is using the same usb wifi stick, is there a way to fix this? i have done the initial bazzite setup that installs a script that supposed to fix it.

unsure about 1 as i cannot replicate it (i own 2 of the controllers, one heavily modified) and the os should not put the usb to sleep unless its a setting in your bios to do it.
2. open the ptyxis terminal and run
ujust fix-steam-download-speed
yea it seems to work better now, before i was getting about 60 Mbps, now i am getting around 140 Mbps, But its still lesser than what windows can do on the same system, downloads is at 250 Mbps.
just curios, do you know why there are these differences between the 2 OS?
different drivers
if you want to actually test if its caused by the driver then wire a pc to your local network and use iperf3 to measure the connection speed between them
i see
this will give you what the network card and driver is capable of (up to your local network speed) and you will not have the variance of CDNs, the ISP etc
The very same pc that i am having download speed loss? test on both windows and bazzite?
it is a consistent way to test
once you test out towards the internet you introduce variables
a local test will always show you what the max capability will be until you hit either the card, driver or local networks limit
any local network these days is at minimum 1gbit
alright, will give it a test later, thanks for the advice
but i am going put my bet on driver difference or some steam closed source stuff causing the speed to be lower
its the same for every linux distro? i mean steam downloads being lower
driver is in kernel so if they use the same kernel its the same driver
i see, there is alot for me to learn about linux, thanks again, will try doing the test as you told me when i am back
@HikariKnight I just read this news on gaming on Linux about steam OS DualSense BT regression.
"Since SteamOS 3.6 is in Preview, you need to manually opt into it if you wish to test. Available via Settings > System > System Update Channel. Here's what's changed: Fixed a regression with DualSense controllers over Bluetooth." - https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/06/steamos-3-6-4-preview-for-steam-deck-has-fixes-for-dualsense-displayport-and-more

SteamOS 3.6.4 Preview for Steam Deck has fixes for DualSense, Displ...
Valve has released SteamOS 3.6.4 Preview for Steam Deck, a small update to the upcoming release aimed at addressing a few problematic bugs.
that would be steamos specific i believe so their bluez package, hid_playstation module or something in their kernel.
unless its something that only happened in gamemode or with how steam itself handled it.
i never ran into any issues with dualsense controllers though
Mines been fine on my Bazzite install on my AMD MSI B650 board, but it has AMD antenna stack as well.
Ooo interesting, i mainly had the issue when using bazzite gamemode steam ui, but i might need to check again now
also i was unable to get a lan cable long enough to test my internet connection on bazzite and windows
but instead i went to speedtest by Ookla and tried the wireless speed on both windows and bazzite, the results were near identical
yeah then its just steam being inefficent with something that is the difference
my only problem are steam downloads on bazzite but the command ujust fix-steam-download-speed didnt seem to fix it
it improves it, doesnt eliminate it (although for some people it does)
ahh ok, thank for helping me understand and troubleshoot
not much we can do to fix the black box that is steam 😄
@HikariKnight managed to get a long lan cable and wired it to my desktop, i am getting the full speed of my internet package on my steam downloads. 500mbps. could it be the wireless receiver i am using? its a tplink one using a realtek chip. With my wireless wifi receiver i was atleast getting 300mbps on windows while downloading games on steam. it was alot slower on bazzite for odd reasons (steam games download)
