452: out of range pointer
As a Linux newbie, I'm struggling to parse the jargon. Can someone explain in plain english why I can't boot into the installer, please?
Assume I'm either 50 or 5. I'm ok with either.

I've managed to install Fedora 40. It still futzes out if I ask it to "adjust for TV", since it's a home theatre PC, can I update from Fedora to Bazzite?
from fedora kinoite to bazzite yes it's possible
using rpm-ostree rebase
I got the ISO from the Fedora site, it just said it's version 40. Is that kinoite? Do I just drop "rpm-ostree rebase" into terminal?
you can get kinoite .iso from here https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops/kinoite/ (and then rebase to bazzite)
or just get bazzite .iso from here https://bazzite.gg/ directly
I tried the Bazzite iso on a thumb drive, that's where I get the 452 error and decided to try a pure Fedora
Am I going to need to do a full reinstall?
is this on the steam deck oled?
No, just a standard desktop hooked to a TV as a home theatre PC
I'm testing it here first before trying the ROG Ally
if you installed a default fedora distribution, yes, you need to install either kinoite or bazzite again
Bugger. Happy to redo kinoite, but I can't get Bazzite to work
look up here the rpm-ostree rebase commands
https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite/
most basic one is
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite:stable
for a desktop with nvidia graphics rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-nvidia:stable
Cheers, I'll give them a read. I'm still a very basic Linux user, I'm just tired of Microsoft giving us the shaft
no problem
if you wanna get the gamemode (gamescope session) just like the steam deck:
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-deck:stable
but this one is only for non-nvidia graphicsAwesome. The desktop is NVIDIA, but the Ally is AMD
I'm leaving this "not solved" at this time, until I get Bazzite working. Downloading the latest kinoite iso right now.
no problem just ask anything
Just so you're not hanging about, I'm on a satellite connection. This is coming down at 400k/s. Yes, kilo. It might be tomorrow before I can update.
it takes a lot to rebase
around 3GB because it downloads the whole OCI image
Marking as closed, I cannot get any ostree distro to install on this machine. Ubuntu works fine, so I'll stick with that for now.
