Layering when it's hot

Hi, y'all! I moved down from Portland, OR back home to California and the weather is much hotter to say the least, especially during these summer months. I'm wondering if y'all have any tips for layering clothes during the summer months? I feel like summer outfits can get a bit bland with just a few layers and wondering if anyone has ideas for keeping cool while looking cool Thanks!

you could also wear the clothes differently (unbuttoned or opened shirt with a tabk top under, rolled up pant hems, etc)
