Stuck on black screen after initial load
After successfully installing bazzite on my pc, it loaded me into desktop mode. I set up my emudeck games, but when I selected "return to gaming mode" it went back to the startup screen but got stuck on a black screen after. Turning the system off and on has the same result. Ctrl + Alt + F2 doesn't bring up the terminal on the black screen

What's your GPU?
AMD R5 340
Unfortunately this is a known issue, a recent Valve update broke gamescope on older AMD GPUs and we cannot downgrade because doing so breaks newer ones
You can rebase to the desktop image for the meantime and rebase back when Valve patches this
Ah ok, thanks!
Im really new to this though, would you be able to point me towards a guide on how to do that?
If you're on your desktop
Run
rpm-ostree status
You can get to it from a TTY
control alt f4
Login
steamos-session-select plasma
Thanks I'll give it a try tomorrow morning!
I'll need the output to show you what to do next
Sorry I wont have access for a bit
I'll see if I can get back to it tonight
I found some time to get back to the computer, but I'm still stuck on the initial loading screen and then it goes to the black screen after
I tried pressing ctrl + alt + f4 while loading and the terminal didnt pop up at any point
Nevermind it just did !
it won't let me type though
if you mean the password, that's normal linux
it's typing, just doesn't show you
prevents from leaking your password length
Pressing enter doesn't do anything though
odd, definitely should
you can always install the desktop image I suppose..
and then rebase from there
im going to try again real quick
I don't think I set a password while doing the setup. What would I type?
nothing, just hit enter
ok i figured. I'll try again
yeah it's not popping up this time
Ok I tried one more time, got it to pop up. I hit enter and it still asked for the login so maybe I did set a password, but as I was typing what the password would be it froze and wouldn't let me hit enter
How would I go about this? The same steps for downloading the ISO as before except I select No for Steam Gaming Mode?
right
And I can swap it back to the gaming mode when i rebase?
correct, you just grab the url from
rpm-ostree status
ie:and modify it to the image you want
IE:
ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-deck-gnome:stable
then run it as:
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-deck-gnome:stable
when it's done you'll be on a deck image
easy as thatThanks!
np
same is true in reverse
that's what I was trying to do for you here
when you reinstall, be sure to enter a password
our install guide details why
Ok will do!
And when I reinstall the desktop version of the os, do I need to do it completely fresh? or am I modifying the install
because the initial install took a LONG time, so I might wait until tomorrow to do it if that's the case
fresh in this case, unless you can get to a TTY without the freeze problem
ok makes sense
Don't have the time for that tonight but I'll update tomorrow! Thank you again!
np
I installed the desktop version, now I just need to rebase
Is this the image that would support my GPU?
That comes later
As I said your graphics card is not supported right now
You'll be in the same position you were in if you rebase now
ah ok I see what you mean, rebase when it's fixed
Yep
So for now if I want a steam-os feel I would just run big picture mode?
Yeah that should be fine
