Stuttering on games, temp fix found but is there a better way?
Hey all, recently installed Bazzite on my desktop PC and having a great experience. I have one thing that's come up I'm curious if people have experienced.
I have an I7-12700 and an 7900 GRE on a 120 hz display w/ freesync. I booted up a few games and even though I was hitting 120 FPS, the games were feeling stuttery, which made me think that freesync / VRR wasn't working (I'm using KDE wayland). Which led me to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1ct277o/i_found_a_fix_for_vrr_inconsistency_in_games/
I wasn't able to find corectl in flathub, but I was able to bring in gamemode with
rpm-ostree install gamemode
and can use gamemoderun %command%
in steam. After doing that, my issue was fixed and games felt super smooth. I know that pop76-scheduler is installed by default... maybe it's not kicking in correctly?
A commentor on the reddit thread says there's a solution here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1500#note_825883 but those /sys/...
files don't exist in Bazzite, and wouldn't expect them to work anyway since I assum they'd be read only if they did.
So anyways I'm all set for now, just curious if anyone knows of a better way to handle this?Reddit
