(2) is always positive, so can never map to a negative value, so can never map to the whole [-1,1] interval
same goes for (4) its always positive
now, for (1) its a polynomial of even degree, with coefficient of highest power positive, it goes to +infinity at both x -> +inf and -inf, its bound to have a minimum value, and its a continuous function, so it can never attain an arbitary large negative value
(3) goes to -inf as x-> -inf and +inf as x->inf, and is continuous, so it will definitely attain all real values
